The new Star Trek movie coming (takes place in the time of Captain Pike) is being directed by JJ Abrams, director of Cloverfield, Mission Impossible 3, Lost, and so on.
This will probably be in the teaser that comes out tomorrow attached to Cloverfield, and looks spectacular:

Word is, there'll be some light elements of the NX-01 in the coloring/detail. The actor who plays McCoy said that the movie is faithful to the original show, but that it's like "looking at the show in high definition", suggesting that you'll be seeing extra detail that modernizes how it looks without conflicting with what's already been put to film over the last 40 years.
Looking forward to it, could be good. Of course, there are always folks who will object to any difference from the original, like Saxman feels about the new BSG, and that's understandable. Time will tell.
