The Brits hated it. They dumped them back on the Americans and we hated them even more. The P-39 was only liked by the Russians.

Not sure what you heard, but the Brits hated the P-39 almost as much as
they hated the early P-38s.

I recall reading about the first USAAF fighter squadron to get over to England.  They'd trained on P-39s in the US and were supposed to be so equipped in Europe.  To say they were less than keen on going up against Bf109F-4s, Bf109G-2s and Fw190As in P-39s would be an understatement.  They were delighted when upon arriving they found that the British had set them up with some Spitfire Mk Vs in reverse lend-lease.

well on 1 of the people's website here, they said that the brits like the p-39d (still not sure if it was d) and at low alts it could fly circles around the 109-es and 109-fs

His quote also said the 109E very closely matches the Spitfire in turn performance, which implies, logically, the P-39 will fly circles around a Spitfire also - which, according to other testings, clearly isn't the case. My my, a glaring contradiction.

Did I also mention the British once tested the P-51 at 414mph max speed, and thought the plane overheated too much?

Here's a tip. Everyone on these boards is biased one way or another, including yours truly. Don't trust the guys that pretend to be 'objective', because there's no such thing. Everything comes down to which set of data and records one chooses to believe, and there are two sides to a coin.
