Norway has strict gun control laws, with police permits and membership of a gun club for pistols, and a licence and hunting test for rifles.

Also this:
Quote
Norway has mandatory military service of nineteen months for men between the ages of 18.5 (17 with parental consent) and 44 (55 in case of war). Beginning in 2006, the armed forces will also invite females to take a pre-service medical examination, but they will not be drafted unless they sign a declaration of willingness. The actual draft time is six months for the home guard, and twelve months for the regular army, air force and navy.

That anyone can get unless you are a convicted criminal or under 18 (younger if you are a sport shooter) so how strict they are can be debated.

With regards to military service, that information is out of date.

You can say no to millitary service and then you dont have to. They dont even have room for half the guys who want to serve so only the dedicated gets to serve.

Can you buy a pistol over the internet, have it delivered to a license gun dealer, and go down and pick it up? Just curious.

I can also carry my pistol to the great outdoors and fire it, as long as its not a federal park. (we have a few abandoned gravel pits here where folks go out and shoot)

We have to go through an FBI background check before we're able to purchase a pistol in the U.S. (At least I had to....)

You can buy weapons of the internet and have it delivered, either privatly or through a gun dealer. Just check any of the online auctions here and you will find guns. The seller requires that you have your papers in order though.

You can fire your weapon in the great outdoors as long as you have a license for the gun and dont cause a danger to others. I took my gun out in the boat or to the coast often and fired it at tin cans or other things.

You need a clean record. I think you can have fines and whatnot, but if you are convicted of a serious or is it violent crime? you wont get a license for a number of years.

Indeed they are.

The main difference is that you cant carry a concealed weapon and i dont think you can own a full auto assault rifle. Im not 100% sure on the last one though as there was a minor case a few months back regarding a comedian who fired his sub machine gun in his own apartment. He didnt really break any laws as he supposedly had permits for it and had many more that he also had permits for.

What got Dago off was prolly my freedom remark and :lol  that directly followed lazs usual dumb bate attempt comment in a thread that was about a funny gun that shot rubber bands. Im only suprised that he didnt include some sort of socialist comment in there as well. I guess he has a fever or is just not feeling well :D

Exactly, Nilsen thinks his country is free, yet he questions or implies the citizens of the USA aren't.   Interesting, and incorrect.

the hats are to make them seem funny at first so you dont expect them to burn your village and satisfy your women.

uhhh.. nelson.. I think you missed the point..  I was talking about brit gun laws not yours.

I don't know much about yours but if it is impossible to carry concealed then you are not really free.    I think that we are not as free as we should be either tho.

Lots of our gun laws restrict freedom and should be changed.

Brit gun laws are the result of more and more infringement on the freedom of the people.   They took a little bit here and a little bit there.. "sensible gun laws" and then.. they just rounded em all up.

as for your country.. I guess if, as you say, you don't have a "need" to carry concealed then you really don't have any reason to stop people who want to.   If there are no bad guys then why have any laws at all?

lazs

Do you really rate freedom by one so small uninteresting and insignificant thing as guns?

Very very few people around the world even care about guns. But if its that important to you then yes you have more gun freedom. I rate a low crime rate and public safety as a far more important freedom, but then i dont give a crap about guns, and neither do the vast majority of the population around the world.
