Hi

i went looking in the forums before i posted but i couldnt find anyone really haveing the same problem that i am having with AH... if there is i apologize for reposting

Anyway when open AH to play sometimes the clip board will be dark like there is a shadow on it and there will be a page spinning around in circles now thats not really the problem but maybe it could be part of it

The problem is that when in game at random times i will get eather a screen lock up when i look around mostly when i look up or i will get a "dont move your controls so rapidly" and the screen will go nuts like im moving my hat switch on my flight stick allover the place at once...

So far the only way i have been able to fix it is to alt tab out and re open AH and hope it decides to play nice with me

I am running vista on my laptop which is a Dell 1721.....it is happing more frequently now to the point where its to frustrating for me to play..

So if anyone knows whats going on or has any help it would be greatly appreciated

Thanks:aok

You can check the "Vista tips" thread at the top of the technical Support forums.

2 things you can try, check your power saver settings on your laptop, set them to desktop. another thing, is if the tips in the thread above don't help, you may have to run the game in win 98 compatability mode (right click on the exe file for the game and look under properties)

With Vista and an AMD dual core CPU, you will have to run the game in "Windows 98/ME" compatibility mode.

Right-click on the Aces High II startup ICON and select "Properties", then select the "Compatibility" tab and check the option to run the application in compatibility mode and select "Windows 98/ME" mode.

This forces the game to run on one CPU and works around the problem with the AMD dual-core processor.

Skuzzy (all)

I have the same problem - with the clipboard "flip" on a Intel Core 2 Duo. I've updated it with all the patches from MS update - is there another patch? The Win98 compatibility thing works - but if there's a patch to get me back into dual-core functionality - I'll put it on. This is under XP Pro.

There is no patch for Vista to correct the flopping/spinning clipboard.  The only way to fix the issue with Vista is to run the game in "Windows 98/ME" compatibility mode.

There is a patch/hotfix for Windows XP.  For laptops, regardless of barnd of CPU, any dual-core CPU with the spinning clipboard needs the hotfix listed in the stickies concerning dual core CPU's.

It is not a mandatory patch, so you will never get it in a Microsoft update.  You have to install it manually.

Yes, it will effect performance.  Bascially what that mode does is forces the operating system to keep the game on one CPU, regardless of how many threads the game starts.  The game is natively multi-threaded, which is why we hit the bug that triggers the spinning clipboard in the first place.

Laptops have the bug as they cut corners to save power.  AMD has the bug in all its dual-core CPU's.  Intel desktop CPU's do not have the bug.  Intel laptop CPU's would not have the bug if the motherboard designers did not cut corners to save power.
