Oh great skyrock,
You always attack the person, I'm sure it would be out of the realm of possibility,or your ego, or your "online persona" to actually help someone.
When I first started I didn't know what a ho was much less that is its frowned upon in the game. It would have been much more helpful for some one to let me know one better way to merge and maybe an acm or two. The other day one of the top players hoed me and told me it was my fault because I did a lazy Merge. Again no help. I even ask " how can I merge better". NO reply the guy just logged. You better pilots out their take it personal because you assume that we do it on purpose all the time. Not that we could use some help to learn some acm and merges.

The more your rant the more you get the same, because you don't help. If you want some better fights. Try helping.

I'm sure you want to tell me to go to the TA..... Thats where you learn at.
Well you will just have to fly against noob idiots like me.

Oh one more thing some  guys couldn't explain what they do or  how they do it anyway, they just fly by the seat of thier pants and throw in some fancy terminoloy.

I would be happy to learn from you anytime.

I've seen Skyrock help many players..  Have you asked him to help you? I doubt it..  Odds are though if you did, he would make time for you at some point.. Probably not at that moment in time, but he would attempt to meet with you..

The MA is what each and every player makes of it, in his or her own fashion.  Don't let anyone tell you what or how you should do things in the MA.  Develop the style that works for you, in order to get the most from the game.  Ask for help if needed, at any given time there's usually "someone" in the MA ready and willing to help.

The DA is a glorified training/ego padding arena that proves nothing.

sonicblu...have you ever went to DA with Skyrock?
Sounds like you havent.  I have more than enough come out of DA with and thank him for the help, and openly admit they were not expecting that, but rather what you think.

btw...the DA is what you make of it as well.  If you feel it is a "manhood" thing...then just maybe the "problem" is with you?
Karma, it follows you every where you go...

I don't think it's an ego thing at all... and even if it is for some people, who cares?

The only time I've ever challenged people to DA was after I had killed them, and they start calling me names on 200.

I love the DA. There's nothing better in this game than a fair 1v1 fight. The DA is the only place where you're gauranteed that.

I got challenged to the DA tonight for the first time:D   It was my fault though.  Dextur was perching in a 190 so I mouthed off enough until he asked me.  I figured he should be able to beat me but wanted to see how good he really was in turn fighting since everytime he shot me down it was from a 190 or P51 B&Z .  Thinking on it now I guess I should have just asked nicely.  My Bad and I did apologize.

Seems like this is the reason for a lot of  DA challenges.  People get vulched, ran from until other greenies can help, shot from a perch, so on and so on.  So, for me anyway, I just want to see if they could actually kill me without all the advantages.
But then after loosing 4 of 4 in the DA I am even more confused about why people with skill  perch, vulch, run to greenies etc...   Guess I should try the B&Z thing and see if it's funner then turn fighting.

I would definitely suggest TA with widewing because of the relaxed atmosphere he brings when he teaches,.  If you would like my instruction, then by all means I will be willing to help you so long as your quest for help was genuine and not a troll of some sort.  Most of the closest "friends" I have in the game came from the DA "challenge".  It is not scary, it is not emasculating, it is simply a way to fight your opponent and realise either your deficiencies as a pilot, or your proficiencies.  Either way thoughts are shared along with first names, and a friendship is born!

just go with the right people and you will have fun.

and the MA didnt always circle around ' win unfairly at all costs'.....and still you can find those who like to win a fair fight.

to answer your question, Yes, the DA does show who is 'better', the MA hides it. winning from good planning or from luck in the MA means nothing.

good fortune and advantage conceals the  true talents of a man, adversity and equal footing demands it.

THAT is about the most perfect explanation of the DA vs. the MA I have ever read.

The dueling arena is fine, but if you feel the need to challenge someone over a single engagement in the MA because they had more e, had the better plane, had you outnumbered (but they're a dweeb) etc. it's not relevant: what failed you was situation awareness, not flying/gunnery skill.

I agree with others that a good DA challenge is against someone superior, who you know will teach you something just by shooting you down.

I've been challenged to DA twice
« Reply #28 on: January 24, 2008, 07:15:29 AM »
First was some guy ranked in the top 20 something and normally flew a P38. My ranking was somewhere in the thousands so I had nothing to lose. I chose the A65Mb for our planes, and as luck would have it exploded him shortly after one or two turns -- right in the cockpit KABOOM!!!!  I had to tell the story on 200 of course, since that was where the little contest really began.  Never saw him again after that day, I presume he changed his name.

The second time I was baited into such a match I lost it, and the guy was so ecstatic that he actually flew to another base to land to keep me from upping and going after him. His challenge came after he stupidly chased me back to our CV and  followed me up when I went vertical over the ack.  :lol  I do remember his name and still  see him occasionally. His handle rhymes with "Dumb".

So yeah it's a place to get pwnd by someone angry at themselves for being stupid. But on a given day and hour, it's a place to drive a fatal stab into the heart of a big mouth little punk schoolyard bully

Not so sure I would completely agree with that.

Over the years, I have known some to be monsters in the DA ... but were completely lost when encountered in the MA.

If they were encountered the slightest disadvantage, their DA fighting style went completely out the window. If you were slightly higher ... had a little more E ... or your attack did not come from the "straight on" angle ... a little bit of "adversity" would completely take them out of their "game".

adversity and equal footing demands it

Adversity and equal cannot be used together in this context ... it doesn't make sense.

I am more in awe of pilot(s) in Aces High that can fight from a disadvantage (adversity) and transform the fight to "equal footing", and then win, more than someone who can consistently wack people of the the DA sky.
