M-10 Tank Destroyer//Panther
« on: January 23, 2008, 09:43:01 PM »
just to face the facts, i think aces high needs the m-10 as a perkie, it could be like 10-25 perkies (between sherman and tiger) and if that was in the game, it would be cool if they made it free, and we also need the panther since we only got a pnzr and  a tiger mk1, or even get us a king tiger, which could cost like 100 tank perkies, (i dont care about the king tiger though)

Are you sure??? An M10???
Fast, but weakly armored, open topped, and a puny 3in naval rifle, which was barely better than a short 75 sherman gun...

Sherman w 76 would be a better choice than M10...

Better yet, A 105 howitzer loadout for M3....
With direct fire sights for HESH rounds..
And 5in type, (Arty) sights for HE rounds....

That would be cool!!!!

Yeah well,
I don't know about other games....
But the M10 was obsolete before it saw action...
They used it anyway, crews suffered for it too....

Hellcat, and General Jackson, were the Buttkickin TD's...
But they were fielded in fairly small numbers....
Don't think we'll be getting them any time soon...

Pershing, of course....
And:
Panther, Tiger II, JS II/III, T34/85, Wirbelwind, M3/105,
Jagdpanzer/panther, etc, etc, etc....

Not to mention all the planes, and ships, that people want.... LOL!!!

I'm sure HTC would love to have them ALL...
But R&D, modeling the item, writing the code for each one...
Only so many days in a year...:O

Did he just go from saying "perk the M-10" to "Make it free"? or did I read this wrong?

The M10 were, numerically, the most important US tank destroyer of World War II.

The pentagonal welded turret, equipped with a 3-inch M7 gun in an M5 mount, was used with a Sherman chassis. To balance the weight of the 3" gun, counter weights weighing about 3600 lbs were added to the top rear of the turret. Total production of the M10 Tank Destroyers was 4,993.

The gun fired the AP M79 Shot (Armor Piercing) shell that could go through 3 inches of armour at 1,000 yards at 30 degrees from vertical.  Its M7 3-inch gun could penetrate most German tanks at long range.  The M10's gun proved to be ineffective against the frontal armor of the numerous German Panther tanks encountered and by the fall of 1944

Audie Murphy earned his Medal of Honor during the Battle of the Colmar Pocket near Holtzwihr, France. During this battle, he climbed aboard a burning M10 "Wolverine" Tank Destroyer which was abandoned in a nearby ditch and began firing a .50 caliber machine gun at the enemy. He killed an estimated 50 German foot soldiers and turned back 6 Panzer tanks. As Audie fought this lone battle, the M10 he was on sustained an estimated three direct hits from either enemy tanks or artillery. Later, during the filming of TO HELL AND BACK, Audie Murphy, who wanted the movie to be accurate, became unhappy when there were no M10's available during the film's production. He reluctantly had to settle for a Sherman tank during the filming of the famous battle.
