I remember a round-table discussion on Fox Sunday during the span where Saddam was stilll threatening inspectors, hindering them, etc ---Brit Hume said something like  "We would have to believe he's ACTING like he has them when he doesn't...that would defy all logic"
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

Iraq already is a terrorist training and deployment ground
====
This subject is not a one way street for anti western propaganda you know.

Look at the strategic military benefits of the war against the Islamic extremists: Iraq and Afghanistan have both been extremely valuable training and deployment grounds for professional western military forces.

I'm pretty sure the A1 mutation is a prerequisite for politicians.
Do not attribute to malice what can be easily explained by incompetence, fear, ignorance or stupidity, because there are millions more garden variety idiots walking around in the world than there are blackhearted Machiavellis.

I'm disappointed in you , i thought you were more intelligent than that.

the reasons were many, and have been mentioned many times.

Isn't that basically what the article posted said?

I know the reasons, I'm just suprised to see this particular one come out of the woodwork.

You are right. At roughly $100 billion per year (+ loss of life), it must be extremely valuable training...

I think Saddam probably fooled himself. Cost him his life and that of his sons.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

You think maybe Saddam lied to Piro?

The world was aware by that point that the US did not execute prisoners. They interred them forever while trying to extract information. Saddam lied to everyone for his own purposes. In this case Saddam's lie was so simple, Piro wanted to beleived him. By lieing and making it simply obvious, Saddam was hoping to get his interrment extended instead of being handed over to the new Iraq goverment. If Saddam was found hiding in a hole with out his sons, was that a man who wanted to be executed?

Did Piro want to beleive their were no WMD? Have you noticed all of the retired government employees who get in front of the microphone to give information long after the fact, then try to make the reasons for Iraq look like the illusions of a meth addict. What six or 7 firgure job or high fee speaking tour is Piro looking at right now in the public sector that this interview is sealing for him?

Follow the money. Over the next 6 months google Piro and see what he is doing for a living.

That's going to make me rest easy at night... thank the gods we are all in safe hands!
