Lost my cool today
« on: January 26, 2008, 09:03:41 PM »
Went to the grocery store today after work to pick up some more diet coke; I know, your getting old when your picking up diet cokes for the weekend.  Anyway, they had no diet cokes so I picked up some diet RC cola instead.  While at the check out, I was kidding with the check out girl and asked if the coke man was on strike.

That's when an old man that was in line behind me stated that Bush probably ran him out of busness like he has everyone else.  I just kind of laughed and thought to myself "another Bush beater".  He then went on to bashing the war; again, his right and ok by me.  He next stated that Bush had our baby killing, raping troops over there creating terrorist.

That's when I snapped; I told him "Your barking up the wrong tree now mister.  I just retired from the military 2 years ago and fought in the last three wars.  You can bash Mr. Bush all you like, but those brave young men and women over there are defending your very right to make a public bellybutton of yourself in this store."  That seemed to shut him up long enough for me to pay for my stuff and get away from the idiot.  The check out girl and the other folks in line all got a kick out of it; I guess he is usually out spoken around town and most folks just let him rant.  I probably should have too, he just got the better of me when he started in on our troops.

nothing wrong with that.  there's a difference between supporting the troops and agreeing/disagreeing with policy.  the old fart crossed the line, he's lucky the only lashing he got was verbal.

Well done.

Funny how folks like that tard can spout off, but when called on the carpet, they quickly back down.

I would have asked what branch of the service he was in.

Not to start another thread along the same lines. I lost my cool today and was suprised...

Today I went to get gas after watching some of the NHL All Stars game at Hooters. I waled inside to pay and while waiting in line a family walks in and moves right in line in front of me. I tell them politely that I was in line. The father figure and the son walk up to me and stare me down. Father figure throws out a comment that immediately pushed all my buttons. He said something along the lines minus the vulgarity " **** you. I hate all you military ****. Your worth nothing and in my country you wouldnt last a day. If I had my way you and your family would suffer." I had about half a sentence out telling him where to stick his country in his middle eastern... well you get the point. At this point a very large man put his hand on my shoulder and pulled me back a step. One look at this guy and you wouldve sworn he came strait off the NFL defensive line and into this store. He told me. "Its ok son, let him say whatever he wants. Because my family prays for all you boys every night at the dinner table and our prayers trump anything this man has to say." I paid for my gas and left. Ive heard them all when it comes to military, I could care less. But when that man made a comment about my family he pushed every button I had. Ive never known myself to be so pissed off before. Was only a miracle that man happened to be there and stopped me from doing something I would have regretted. I feel bad now I didnt offer to pay for his gas or ask his name and shake his hand.

Blue,

Glad you didn't get a chance to react there.

In your shoes, I might have pointed out to that retard that "in his country", he would have likely died where he stood, and in the US, "fighting words" intended to provoke violence are not protected free speech.  If he then cared to escalate the situation to violence, I'd stand a fair chance at not getting in trouble since he started with a barely hidden threat against my family.

But I'm also glad I wasn't in your shoes :)
