Reminder for the gun guys. Always be safe.

I ran into this link on another forum.

Guy documents a negligent discharge into his own leg.

Some of the pics are harsh, but the story is a good read.

"I also forgot to clear the pistol", i can tell he was never a Marine, every time you put down a weapon you clear it, every time you pick it up you clear it. There is absolutely no excuse for a accidental discharge.

Guns are not toys, they can injure or kill, treat them with respect.

yea LoL, but I've been there, but I was a lot luckier, a whole lot luckier...

You cant just pay lip service to gun safety, you have to do it right, everytime...  I remember hearing about people getting accidently shot and they said "I was cleaning my gun and it fired"  BS you cant clean a loaded weapon.... ever...

A guy I know used to work the ER, had an incident in his on base house, shotgun went off, straight up into the ceiling.  He told them he was cleaning it.  I told him BS... You Cant Clean A Loaded Weapon...

I shot myself in the leg, with a 22.  Why, cause I was screwing around and not paying attention... but I was lucky, bullet hit a knot in my holster tie down and hit the seam of my levis,  bullet was deflected away from my leg...

Clear your weapon.  When handing your weapon to another person, clear your weapon.  When someone hands you a weapon, even if you just saw them clear the weapon, Clear The Weapon... no excuses...

good little reminder to have in the back of one's head when handling weapons.  Seems like a good guy who's trying to make the best of a crappy mistake.  I hope everything turns out ok with his leg.

The closest I ever came to an accident like that was being surprised there was a round chambered when I picked up one of my .45s.

Its so ingrained, if I pick one up 5 minutes after I set it down or even two, I still do it.

hehe, you'd think so wouldn't ya.  When I was in, a Cpl shot himself in the leg with his .45 while playing "quickdraw".  We were not supposed to even have a round chambered unless the poopoo had hit the fan.

Geez, Have the presence of mind to know
what condition your weapon is in...

If you have to check it very 5 mins,
then you probably shouldn't own one...

Just joshin ya, but the point is true nevertheless...;)

I have had guns go off twice...er.. three times  in my life that were not intended.. all were my fault.  All were really stupid..  one was a repair on a 25 auto that ended up shooting myself in the face.

The most tempting thing to do when working on guns is to check function with live ammo.   It is best to make dummy rounds.

A friend has a sandbag in his reloading room.. it has two holes in it.  it is the "safe direction" for him and in 20 years he has put two holes in the bag.. no exits.  sand works.
