Try a Ruger 9mm...
Very practical..
Pretty high quality, at a good price....
A good starter, to see what direction you'd like to go.....

If you only want a pistola for target shooting?
Then a .22 is mighty easy on the wallet....

Thanks guys. Yeah I figure on range shooting to stay in practice. How little can I get away with? I donīt want have to be down there week after week, got things Iīd rather do. Itīs a means to an end more than for fun. Need to stay protected, what with all the packing hoods we get around here.

Go out shooting with a friend who has a lot of handguns and is into them.    or... go to a range that rents out guns and try some different types.

Try some revolvers in say 38/357   and some semi autos in 9mm/40/45.

You need to try out some different guns...  every time I take someone like you out (little experience with handguns) I guess wrong about what handgun they will bond with.

It just seems that everyone does better with something different.   No ryme or reason to it.

If you have allot of hoods packing hear around your should look into some Body armor too.  With trama plates, those are the best. ;)

Glock 17,19,34 for the price is a great start. I purchased a lady smith in 38/357 for my GF a couple weeks ago. After four trips to the range she cant put down my glock 19. Sounds funny but her hands dont fit the lady smith and she is grouping twice as good with the glock.

What she has shot to compare

STI .40

Yeah, but lately I'm big on BOOM instead of bang.  I'd rather shoot 50 rounds of .45 ACP than 500 of .22.

However, with the relentless rise of ammo cost, I may soon be shooting nothing but .22.

I second the .22 for plinking. My ruger III hunter gets the most love than any other gun in the safe. The OKO red dot is a blast to shoot and at $8 for a brick of 500 you can shoot all day. We had so much fun bowling pin racing one day we went and purchased a second one. We call them the  "The Twins" (:
