Enjoy the new gun, I hear those are very nice!

Here is my newest… It’s an 1873 Springfield trapdoor 45/70cal. All original, with a real good bore. I bought it at an estate auction last week.

45/70 black powder rounds run about a buck and a half apiece. But I already cast all of my own bullets for my muzzleloaders. So now I just need to get a mold for this caliber and the equipment to load black powder cartridges. Should be able to get everything I need for about sixty dollars.

Hard to tell in the pic, is that an over/under?

Trieze,

Yup that's a stack barrel, a true gentleman's sporting arm. I love them for hunting and clay busting.

Papabear,
Please be very careful with that old timer, the metallurgy wasn't as good as it is today and it would be a shame to blow it (and yourself) up with a too hot load. Trap doors were weak actions and the falling trap actions much more robust. If I had the $ and was living in a stationary location I'd love to get a Sharps, even a replica to shoot in 45-70.

FX1,

Congrats on the new scatter gun. I hope it does very well for you in the field and range.

One of my best friends just walked in to the shop the other day, and brought me a nice little Model 70 in .270 Winchester, 24" barrel, 3x9 scope, composite stock, and target crown barrel. A couple years ago, when my Model 670 300 Magnum was down, he picked up a nice Model 70 30-06 for me. I'm developing quite a collection of Model 70 bolt action rifles. Between what he buys and what I buy, I need a new safe. Right now I'm working on picking up a Garand, and after that I'm going to build an AR-10.

The Winchester Model 70 is back by the way, now made in Columbia SC. Has a new MOA trigger, and all of them are now controlled round feed.

I'm going to have to get back to work on the handgun collection soon, a few autoloaders, and maybe some more big monster magnum revolvers. But if I come in to some big money, I want a Thompson and a BAR.

I have a M-70 in .375 H&H. I had to turn the country inside out to find one. Finally I had to buy one from a guy in Texas.

I took about 15 animals with it in Africa. Boy its a thumper. Maybe Ill take it next time I go elk hunting.

I'm still trying to find a Beretta automatic pistol (forget the designation, its basically a US Army M9) in .45 that isnt a rattletrap. I've found two that I wouldn't dare fire, no good ones yet.

It's a Model 92 Beretta. I had one. I've shot dozens. They suck. Beretta should have given Mel Gibson $10 million, for using one in "Lethal Weapon". Because they've made at least that much on that piece of crap since.

I loved the Beretta I had in the Army, but I won't go any smaller than .45.

I didn't even know that was what Riggs carried, I just figured it was the usual 9mm.

I can't justify any need for either of these rifles, but that doesn't stop me from lusting after a Remington R-15 VTR CS carbine in .223 and/or a Remington 750 Woodmaster carbine in .308, or maybe .30-06, or even .35 Whelen.

Berettas are indeed things of beauty, and they shoot great too.   My Beretta shotguns are my most treasured guns:

i hope they are making them better now than they made the model 70 featherweight lemon i bought new 11 years ago. 6" groups straight out of the box was hardly impressive.

i only hung on to it because i have a soft spot for winchesters and i figured i would be able to fix it.
