Cruise Ships?
« on: January 30, 2008, 11:12:21 PM »
I'm sure there are a few folks here that have been on Cruise ships before.

I've went once... Last year to Western Caribbean with Princess Cruises.

Anyway... I'm looking for a cruise in September and Princess doesn't have dates to my liking so I'm wondering about the other carriers... Carnival, Royal Caribbean, etc.

Any recommendations?

Jesus Christ on a crutch...didn't you get enough sea time in the Navy?

Actually, I'm looking forward to a cruise myself.  But the wife-unit is not agreeing with me on what we should spend our limited vacation money on.

My parents went on Carnival back in 2000 and loved it, which is saying alot since my dad is afraid of boats.

Just make sure you don't go on one thats half-booked for a convention or freakish get-together.

LOL... my thoughts exactly until last year. I went over fifteen years without going back to sea. Hell... I thought it was immoral to actually pay to go to sea.

...but the cruise was relaxing. Food was great. I'm thinking I'll do it again. Nothing big... just a week or so down to Mexico.

To be honest I'm not sure, never been on a cruise. But I've heard some real horror stories from friends and co-workers about it.

Like trying for a week away from the kids and finding a group of single parents and their kids booked 3/4 of the ship, or or old folks going for a relaxing mid-winter getaway at the same time that a horde of college kids decided to plan a drunken orgy at sea....

Wifey wants us to take a cruise in April or May, I'm interested in any suggestions too.  Probably out of San Diego heading south.

Good idea, I'll bring that up with my RA.

If you book through a travel agent I would be willing to bet they can tell you if there is any special events, i.e. a confrence or something planned aboard the ship. Certain times of the year I would think would change who you can expect to be on board. During the March, April, and MAy expect alot of college kids, maybe older folks in the winter.

Royal Caribbean is First Class all the way!

I've sailed with them 3 times and would do it again in a heartbeat. Not sure on their west coast service, but they put on one hell of a cruise!

Queen of the fleet, this 236-foot Barquentine was built in 1923 for financier E.F. Hutton and christened HUSSAR. In the 1930's she was sold to shipping magnate George Vettlesen who re-christened her VEMA. Later she was put into service by Columbia University sailing over 1 1/4 million miles worldwide. Evidence gathered on her voyages confirmed the theory of the continental drift.

Hey, now! Barefoot cruises do not count. They are in a class all their own.

One of the best things about them is when you hit port, you are among 100 ppl, not a 15,000 strong crowd trying to get a drink at Jimmy Buffet's bar.

1000 to 1700 per person for a week
