Ok, this was the first restart after installing the CH drivers again and recalibrating.

If it continues to happen, I'll let you know.

You ABSOLUTEY DO want to install the drivers when it asks you.  It is wanting to install the CH drivers.  You do not want to ever cancel out of that.

I'm definately learning as I go here.

I think I've needed to readjust my thinking regarding these controllers.  I keep thinking of them as 'plug and play' and I'm starting to realize that there's alot more going on under the hood than I realized.

Last night I was working on getting my stick and throttle working with another simulator and I realized that I didn't even have the most up to date CH manager program (I was using the disk that came with the controller).

With the new install I had to recalibrate everything and I let windows go ahead and install the drivers when asked.

I'm going to go back to the starting board and try to work with the mapping functions of the CH software to program the controllers.

I'm going to google for some programming tips for the CH software, but if you have a preferred site I'd welcome the link.

Thanks for all the help on my evolving saga here.

Sounds like you're heading in the right direction there toonces.  If you have not discovered already, you should go to the CH Hangar and start hanging out there.  There is a wealth of knowledge there and some of the nicest people you will ever meet.  In fact, Bob Church, the guy who wrote The Command Manager (and the Foxy program used by the TM Cougar) monitors that forum and answers many of the questions posted there.  He is a SUPER nice guy.  Talk about getting it straight from the horse's mouth!

Good luck to you.  Contact me any time with questions/etc.  I am glad to help you.

Thanks for putting me on the right path Homeboy.

I followed a link on your site for programming CH for dummies (Ghost_561 or something like that) and have learned alot.

Specifically, I'm getting back into Falcon 4.0 and the game simply wouldn't let me map my controllers through the game interface due to being restricted to one controller.  Messing with the mapping software has given me a lot of insight into how powerful it is compared to simple mapping in game.

Funny it took a controller malfunction to wake me up to the potential of the stuff sitting right in front of me.

Thanks for the help, and I'm sure we'll be chatting more in the future.
