The Pats "DID" have a lot of penalties in the game, hold on let me check. I cant find how many penalties each team had tho they had about the same in yards lost. Actually ,thinking about it, The Giants probably had more hurtful penalties. That one "12 player on the field" one I almost puked over. You just dont go to the SB and get that kinda penalty. And wasnt the Pats one TD setup with a Giants penalty?
Overall the Refs did a good job and just let the teams play. I cant stand a SB that constantly has penalty flags thrown.
When the Pats went for that 4'th down conversion instead of kicking the FG I told my son next to me, "that was a big mistake and its going to cost them".
Key stats. 1st downs- Giants 4 rushing and 13 passing. Pats 3 rushing and 17 passing. Giants were 8/16 on 3rd down conversions. Pats were 7/14. Giants had 91 rushing yards, Pats had only 45. Ely was 19 for 34 in the air for 255 yards. Brady was 29/48 for 266 yards.
I cant find time of possession but I believe it favored the Giants. The way you beat Brady is to keep the football out of his hands. The Giants "D" had 5 sacks but were always in Brady's face, most of all Strahan. Both teams punted 4 times, "and when was the last time the Pats had to punt as many times as an opponent"?
The Pats Welker almost beat the Giants on his own. I cant believe that guy is actually white. Hes to fast for a white guy.
I played and coached offense. But Ive always believed that its defense that wins big games for you. The Giants are World champs because of their defense. Just a terrific football game.
