The Fireproof A6M

Last night we were having a rather enjoyable running furball between 2 bases. The Knights were sending waves of bombers and Bish were shooting fish in a barrel. After the Nits decided to send fighter cover it became a low level turn and burn fight.

I was in a N1K and engaged an A6M. It was a great fight and I finally managed to get on the Zeke's 6 and flame him. After following him for 20- 30 seconds to make sure nobody tried to steal my kill I broke off to help another bish with another A6M about 4.5K away.

Before I could reach him he managed to flame the Zeke. I check my 6 and lo and behold my flamed Zeke is closing in on me guns blazing. WTF? This guy should have been toast long ago.

Long story short I got shot down as did the other bish. Both of us by the flaming A6M's that we had hit. This brings the question just how survivable is a flying burning gas can? If your aircraft is on fire how in the world are you able to ignore that and continue to fight unencumbered? Would'nt the fire inhibit your ability to see, maneuver... uh breathe?

HiTech, you need to add a bit more realism to the damage of a burning aircraft. Just like we have the blood and oil on the windscreen, should'nt we have smoke and flames in the cockpit along with some sort of increasing controlability problems when the aircraft is on fire? Would'nt you pass out from the smoke or heat? I can't believe that a burning A6M is just as good engulfed in flames as one fresh from the hanger.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

do a search, this has been hashed over a couple hundred times, and so far.....still no answers. Finish your kill next time and you won't have to worry about it any more. I see a flaming zero, its still live game to me, I don't care if it a stolen kill, I make sure it's down.

Unfortunately you have to look at a flaming zeke as just having a fuel leak. It only becomes a non-threat if it explodes or crashes. If you keep this mind set you won't get disapointed.

Just another reason to film everything. Zeke's will burn for a pretty long time. So its certainly possible that he just lived long enough to get you both. However there is no question that questions regarding damage issues have been abundant recently. Had you filmed it then you could forward it to skuzzy if you had a question.

You can still get one or two kills in a busy furball with a flamming Zeke. I do all the time. Most players underetimate  what u can do in 30 seconds with a zeke.

Most think because its on fire its over.... My advice .......if you flame a zeke  keep shooting till he dead. or you will pay for it.

What I don't understand is why the Zero burns longer than almost any plane in the game.... when it has zero armor, zero self sealing tanks... and should ignite and burn a wing off before most any plane....

Yet it seems to burn longer than any....

Just doesn't seem right from what I understand about Zeke's

If I set one on fire, I light it up good and then fly off and watch it flail around until it comes apart. It's fun to hit one from above and behind and then zoom off and watch him burn.

i loo at it this way.......if the bogie is maintaing controlled flight.......i stay on him and pop a few more into him.........till a wing or someting that'll cause him to lose controll falls off...or he explodes...then i go to another target.... only exception i make to this is buffs.....if i set a drone ablaze, i put my rounds on one of the others.........

Last Zeke I flamed I had come down across his 6 with my jug and set left and right sides on fire by our town. I kept my distance and he flew from town over to the field and almost got a vulch..:rofl

Now I'm sorry but it's bad enough when 1 fuel tank is on fire but when everythings on fire and the plane is totally engulfed in flames I do beleive that the pilot would at least be atempting to dive into the ground and make a quick ending to life rather than fly around burning to death....
From the ashes of the old we rise to fly again. Behold The Phoenix Wing!

If it's a zeke or a jug, and it's on fire, you might as well keep shooting.
