I heard a few years ago that there were fewer than 5000 ww2 vets left in the US. My dad will be 83 this year and he went in the navy in 1943. So he's probally one in the middle of the age group for WW2 vets. We take so  much for granted today. Think about how it was for them barely out of their teens and off to a world war. It was their job and they did it. :aok

Just a few years ago we were losing about 2,000 wwii vets a day.  Now its closer to 1,000 a day since the majority have passed.  There are still many around.  I live with one whose 88 and know dozens.  Everyday the local paper has a few, and this is only one town...

My grandfather served in 3 different armies during WW1. He was a member of the Stockholm Guard, went AWOL to join the French army, then after his release he jumped a ship to America where he promtly joined the US Navy where he served out the remainder of the war.

Shoot, even Vietnam Veterans are getting old now.  When I was in high school, most of the teachers who were Vietnam Vets were getting ready to retire.  Same with college.
