CARROLLTON, Texas (AP) — A defendant in the Louisiana "Jena Six" case was arrested on suspicion of slamming a student's head into a bench at his new school in Texas, police said.

Bryant R. Purvis, 19, was arrested on a charge of assault causing bodily injury Wednesday after an altercation at Hebron High School. It began because Purvis believed a student had flattened his tires, Sgt. John Singleton said.

Purvis was released from jail Thursday morning.

According to a police report, the student felt Purvis come behind him and "grab his neck with one hand and begin to choke him." Mr. Purvis, one of the black teens known as the Jena Six, was accused of choking and pushing Christopher Jones because he believed Mr. Jones had vandalized his car.

Purvis then said, "Don't you ever mess with my car again" and slammed the student's head into the bench of a table and walked away, the report said. The student's left eye was injured, but Singleton didn't know whether he needed medical attention after seeing the school nurse.

School district declined to comment.

Purvis' mother, Tina Jones, told the Alexandria Daily Town Talk newspaper that she wished her son could avoid such situations.

"I understand he gets frustrated," she said. "But he needed to walk away from this situation, being that he's already in a situation. It's very frustrating and upsetting to have to go through so much."

still isnt a good reason to slam anyones head against anything when you are already a known attacker.

But assuming his attack was unprovoked is *good reason* enough to take him out back and take a brick to his head?

This is not the first or second time he has had an issue with his "anger". Prior to that whole Jena mess he already had shaken assault charges. Maybe third time is the charm and they finally send this one where he belongs. Then lets see how long it takes him to go from "Bryant" to "Brenda".

i am being flip about it granted, but the kid needs to be removed from the general population if he can't keep his watermelon cool.

I think you guys would have more compassion for a pit bull that is abused and lashes out at people. There is no excuse for violence, but maybe we should look at the reasons for his anger too. Just for future refernce and all.

It doesn't matter, just because you are pissed off, does not give you the right to beat the hell out of another person. We are not talking about an eight year old who got pissed and hit his sister and tagged her one. We are talking about a person that has a history of engaging in these types of acts.

Yes like no fathers at home, 72% illegitimacy within the black community, kids having kids. And the likes of racist like the Jackson and Sharpton, refusing to put the blame were it belongs. Squarely on the blacks them selves.
I seem to remember Malcolm X commanding the black males to go out and have kids in order to put tress on the white community , How’s that working out for you now?

Doing so to a person who has a history of violent acts ain't so smart either right?

It might not be the case I admit, but lets bash his skulll with a virtual brick without even considering it.
