MT is correct... I have more compassion for a pit bull who lashes out. they are acting according to their nature with ability to reason.

the person in question has just gone feral for despite the ability to reason.

You do have to ask why his tires were flatten. Given this guy's past history (including SEVERAL assault charges SINCE the jena 6 event), I don't think the tire slashing itself is unprovoked.

If the guy who slashed the tires is white then he'll be screaming that tire slashing is a racist act and he should get life in prison. Thats the ONLY way sharpton or jackson will say anything about this.

wait.. I see a pattern here...

He beats up one white kid by being part of a pack of 6..

He beats another by coming up behind the guy with no warning and grabbing the guy in a choke hold.

He seems to be a racist guilty of hate crimes. A cowardly one at that.. he probly is just afraid of white people and has some racial preconcieved notions about white guys.

In both cases it looks like he was responding to threats, insults, and property damage... not initiating. That makes him a racist?

He may very well be one... I'm just trying to judge by events and not guess what his motivations are.

Unless there is another article about this that has not been linked yet I'd like to point out a couple things.

No where in the article does it identify the skin color of the person who was assaulted. There is no indication that this is race related on either side of the situation.

No where in the article does it state that the tires were slashed, just flattened.

No where in the article does it state that there is proof, a witness or other evidence that the person who was assaulted was responsible for flattening the tires, just that purvis "thinks" the kid he beat up on did.

Correct. But it doesn't say he wasn't responsible either, which is the point I was making. It says:

"...he believed Mr. Jones had vandalized his car."

The article gives the impression that it was an unprovoked attack but is silent on the facts. Right?

That is an assumption on your part that is not supported by the article. Another way to look at that statement is that if both parties are black, certainly race is not an issue.

An allegation is not proof. As I stated earlier, there is no information that the individual assaulted was in fact responsible for the tires being flattened. It may well be an unsupported and inaccurate assumption on the part of purvis. Even if it is true, committing an assault is not the appropriate response is it?

If you attack anyone with six other guys.. it matters not what your motive was.. it is a crime of cowardice and assault.

If you attack someone from behind with a choke hold then slam their head into a bench it is a crime of cowardice and assault.

I think race should not be involved in any crime.. I do not think "hate crimes" should exist...only crime.

Sigh...I agree that an allegation is not proof and have said so. Those here who have assumed that it was an unprovoked attack are basing that on unsupported and possibly inaccurate assumptions also...CORRECT?

It is absolutely not the appropriate response either...again I agree with you, but it might help to EXPLAIN the response rather than simply assuming it was unprovoked and that he is an animal.

He may well be a complete idiot and an a-hole. I don't know...do you? Or are you making assumptions based on news stories?

Yes Yes....We should try to understand his plight....

What we need to be asking here is why is this young man troubled.....what causes this anger.....Was he abused...are there any positive influences i this young mans life...how can we as a scociety take responsibility for his actions and completely not let him be held accountable. How can we make excuses for his dumb friking decisions and not giving 2 chits about what he does becuase he knows he'll get off....

Your a good guy MT.....but people are responsible for thier actions.....He knows right from wrong and doesn't care. He'll get off again....and we know why.
