The increasingly weak U.S. dollar, once considered the king among currencies, has brought waves of European tourists to New York with money to burn and looking to take advantage of hugely favorable exchange rates.

nothing to see here, just me tilting at windmills, move along...  :huh

I'm trying to understand, bsdaddict thinks people coming to the US to spend their money is a bad idea?

not at all... trade is good, deflation of the dollar is bad....  I take it you bought Bernake's line whaen he said something to the effect of "deflation of the dollar isn't a problem for americans.  We earn dollars and we spend dollars, who cares what the dollar is worth compared to other currencies..."

I'm trying to understand YOU, john... do you think a weak dollar is a good thing?

But we can elect a "Constitutional Signing" wannabee who'll isolate America and make the dollar stronger.

noninterventionism != isolationism

Republicans were all for non-interventionism when it was a Clinton who was ordering the intervening...  You remember McCain railing about getting out of Somalia and Haiti?

I'm in the middle of developing a new service for webmasters and I will charge in Euros.  Why should I charge $35/month in USD when I can charge $35/month in Euro's and actually make $50 USD.

You will eventually see billing in Euro's becoming very popular online.

why don't you just charge $49.95 USD?

or you could charge 35 UK pounds and make $68.32 USD.

If America went back to counting dollars ensuring that there was enough gold in Fort Knox to account for all the American Dollars that are printed, the value of our Dollar would definitely start climbing again.

Because sales have a lot to do with perception. To the average person $35 Euros sounds cheaper than $49.95 USD even though it's not. I'm not interested in pounds, just Euros.

john, you still haven't answered my question.  How's a weak dollar a good thing?  Maybe you'd like to help him with this one, Mac?

I've no doubt that foreigners love a weak US dollar.  Maybe I should have been more precise, how's a weak (and getting weaker) dollar good for America?
