Can you fly with a Keyboard?
« on: February 11, 2008, 07:49:45 PM »
I just installed Aces High, not knowing my Joystick is broke. And I'm wondering if it's possible to fly with the keyboard.

You can use your mous instead of your joystick:

You can also navigate Windows without a mouse...

I think you should plan on saving $15 for a low-budget stick. Just avoid Logitech for now.

Generally crappy quality. Even if it seems to work out-of-the-box (if you're lucky) it will stop working properly in an average of 3 months. There's a few rare rare lucky ones that have had a logitech for years, but they're the 1% exception to the rule.

The sticks lose the ability to send a steady signal, spike all over the place, and generally render the game unflyable past a certain point.

Hence, "stay away from logitech for now" (until you do a lot of research and find something you think you want or until logitech gets their act together)

Just a tip.

i would recomend buying a Saitek, but dont drop $50 for a stick if your not sure in the long run you will be playing much, if at all. Saitek does have some $20 sticks though.

Yes, yes, yes....get an entry level Saitek stick to begin. If & when you're determined to stick with it, go the extra mile/dollar and buy CH Products gear. You'll save yourself money in the long run...trust me.

The best low cost sticks are the Saiteks, Cyborg, Evo, etc. You may find a Logitech or generic one for $10-$15 but it won't seem like a good deal when you are buying a new one a month or two later. If and when you fly regularly (here or elsewhere), you'd do wel'll to save up $70-$90 to buy a CH Combat/Fighter stick.

My $20 MS Sidewinder has lasted me many years with good quality input. I have a better throttle, rudder pedals, but I'm still using a simple $20 stick.

You don't have to go expensive.

I've had nothing but good experiences with Microsoft hardware. Just so happened I used a set up at a friends house where he had a full CH configuration and while I didn't care for the throttle (prefered my Saitek X-45 throttle) I feel in love with the joystick.

ST290Pro will do the trick, $20 dollars at Radioshack and Walmart.
