Is it that way today? No.
Is it appropriate to remember with respect & admiration those who cut the trail for those people today who can run the path freely? Yes
Is Bessie one of those folks? Yes, absolutely.

Yes, because the Black race is the only people in the history of the world who have ever struggled with ANYTHING.

We let anyone that wants to take that day off to do so. Only they give up a regular holiday in return.

What on earth are y'all talking about? The whole month is black history month. There's no proposed federal holiday involved.

And as soon as any of y'all heard BLACK, you ran to the normal jibber-jabber. *rolling my eyes*

Since Homo sapiens orginated, theoretically, in Africa, doesn't that make all of us in the U.S. 'African-American'?

Agree.

As to the Tuskegee Airmen, I was kind of suprised when I went to their display area at the Dayton Air Show in '03...frankly it sucked.  The people in there were not at all friendly and as hard as I tried to find something to buy as a momento...it was all garbage.

It is a shame.

Racism is a two way street. Two of the most racist folks I know are both black. They are more racist than anyone of any color I have ever met.

That's interesting...and your point?

No, I'm the only "African American" in this thread. I was born on the african continent 52 years ago. I'm also white. Soooo.......

By the way MLK plagerised his PHD thesis. The school decided not to take it away for fears of all the normal things that happen when the american black community gets upset.

Wasn't his name michael king?  I heard somewhere that he never even legally changed his name to martin luther, who was a white protestant reformer. I also read he was a communist.

Edit:
Just did a google search and found this.

Whaaa!??!! A white student was denied admission? The racist bastards! It's a good thing the newspaper is taking the time to document each and every one of these outrages because anytime a white or asian can't get into the college of their choice it's obviously because of race.  Because what else could it be?

How many times does your newspaper do an expose when a black student doesn't get into college?

I stand corrected..

A philandering plagerist is apparently the most important person on the planet because he is the only one worth having a whole holiday just for his birthday (except possibly christ but he is out of favor this year).
