DSL Modem/Hub
« on: February 13, 2008, 01:55:24 PM »
I have a 2wire DSL Modem with 4 ports. Had it for 4 years. My new mb I think has an ethernet port of 10/100/1000. Any advantage to getting a new modem?

None whatsoever.

Even if you found a modem that supported 1000mbps, you are still limited by your internet speed.  I doubt your internet speed is higher than 10mbps... more likely 5 or 6mbps.

The only speed increase you would see might be between computers on the same network. The internet comes nowhere close to taxing a modem or router made in the last one or two decades.
