The price of saying sorry....
« on: February 14, 2008, 04:40:13 AM »
Who's have guessed that as soon as the Government said sorry they'd be hit up for more cash?
Seriously, these guys suck so much free money out of our welfare system it can hardly keep up and now they want more? I cannot believe the Government didn't realise that "Sorry" would be an admission to liability. What numbskulls.

They took their children, you don't think an apology is in order?  This was happening up until the 70s too.  That's pretty appalling.

Veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery interesting docu on pbs last night about blacks looking into dna for answers of EXACTLY where they came from...all the way to specific tribes in specific regions of various african countries.

the host was black...and some of the people on it who had their genetic DNA tested mere chris rock...maya angelou...morgan freeman...

it was absolutely AMAZING to see their individual responses when the completed dna evidence books were placed in front of them telling them for the first time in their lives exactly who they were and where they came from.......and in some cases.........shown the actual slave ship manifests because they found the actual ships their relatives were on.

one of the most compelling pbs docus I've seen in a long time.

exterminate, then apologize :aok

Its actually very interesting to study human behavior in our evolution with regards to the tendency of tribes, or groups of humans, and how they behave when encountering an unkown group or tribe, and how almost without fail one tribe asserts itself as dominant over the other.

Examples in more recent times, african slavery, american indians, and the aboriginal people of Australia, but there have been hundreds of documented cases in the past 200 years of groups of people being either dominated or dominating other groups, usually with very foul results for those ending up on the leash, so to speak.

I saw something similar on (I think it was) an evening news show.  They had the same DNA testing done with three different companies and got three different answers.

It doesn't sound very foolproof.

Tryed that it's called:Liberia
In 1822, the American Colonization Society established Liberia as a place to send freed African-American slaves.  African-Americans gradually immigrated to the colony and became known as Americo-Liberians, where many present day Liberians trace their ancestry. On July 26, 1847, the Americo-Liberian settlers declared the independence of the Republic of Liberia.

There is no going back. There was no going back when the Celts kicked out the Picts. Or when the Saxons kicked out the Celts, or when the Normans overran the Saxons. There was no going back when the second wave of Native americans across the land bridge kicked the first wave farther south and east.
Its happened all across the world, again and again. People get displaced, technology changes, life moves on.

There is no going back, period. Life happens, stuff happens, a country can not be held liable for what happened that many years ago. Times change, opinions change, the way to treat and deal with problems change.

All we can hope is that we are moving forward, and make steps to that point.

How far must we move forward before we realize that the orgin of our ancestors means exactly diddly-squat? How far forward must we move before the "dash American" hyphenated folks realize the commonality in all of us, American, is more important that the continent/region of their ancestors origin.

And why can't I call myself an Irish-German-British-Scottish-American without people looking at me funny?
