Mark Farner said that the only way Grand Funk would ever get back together would be if Donny Brewer and Mel Schacher became born again Christians. In the early nineties the IRS decided that Farner hadn't paid his fair share in the seventies and hit him with a multi-million dollar tax bill.  This was when they launched their reunion tour.  I guess this proves that the IRS is more powerful than god.

Thanks to the IRS I got to see THE American band with their orginal line-up at Pine Knob Music Theater in 1997.  It was one of the best shows I've ever seen.

Best three songs by Grand Funk Railroad by far.  I'm pretty sure "American Band" got played to death.

All due respect to GFR and MC5, Bob Seger was always my favorite Detroit rocker.  The lyrics to 'Night Moves' are still my all-time favorite of any pop song.

And, oh god, what a soulful voice.

Here's a good Start for some of you kids.

The 2nd live album "Caught In the Act" had an AWESome version of T.N.U.C---I think "Black Licorice" is my fav---drums and bass in that song take me somewhere

HeartBreaker, Inside Lookin Out, and I'm Your Captain were the first Rock tunes I learned how to play. Still gets the 'Ol heart pumpin today.

If you love Grand Funk go here and sign the petition to get them into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  When you think about it, it's kind of ridiculous that Franky Lymon has been inducted and Mark Farner hasn't...

being born in 1957 and being a bassist i grew up on GFR. Mel was my first idol. when my first serious band played out we always opened with "Are You Ready" and later adding a few more and always playing "I'm Your Captain" in there some where. every night i went to bed with the same 5 stack of records as i doze off. Grand Funk Live at MSG, then Deep Purples Made in Japan. then if i wasnt asleep yet the last album was the best of Bread. being in a band in the 70's & 80's was the greatest.
when i got my license and took my forst love to the drive-in Gf just came out with thier "We're an a American Band" video which they showed before the movies started. when the video stated she spilt a large coke right on the jewels. it still was a great night. long story short Grand Funk was huge in my life. then came RUSH...
couple of summers ago GF actually came to my town. my wife didnt want to go..started a huge fight and guilt trip and i missed the show.
another long story short..dont get married, get insurance.
