Sir,
Was flying against overwhelming odds at A140 yesterday against a CV group in a Typhy. Made several passes through base being attacked when i lost left ailron an aux fuel. Made one last pass with last of my ammo and was bugging to next friendly base. Seen F4U on my six at 2.5 thinking surely i would make it back. Look back again an he was at 1.5 an gaining. So I put out on 200 sorry F4U chasing typh bingo an broken up. Next thing I know F4U breaks off an itunes throws a on 200 and wished me luck on landing. How many peeps would have still gave chase and either killed me or vulched me landing?

This used to take place all the time back in WB and in the earlier days of AH.  Good to see that it still occurs.  Seems that iTunes is a class act.

Hmm - depends.

Firstly - most of the time I don't tune to 200. I'm 20 years too old for most of the conversations going on there.

Secondly, it would depend on how you had been flying. If you had been mixing it up fair and square, then yeah, probably I'd let you go. If, on the other hand, I figured you had been flying pretty lamely, I might extract revenge. Definition of 'lame' varies depending on my mood

I also salute itunes for that very shivelrous, I suffered the exact opposite the other night after sinking a rook cv and being jumped by 4 planes i turned for home with 1bomber left, smokeing from 2 engines and leaking mass amounts of fuel no landing gear on right side and last but not least left aileron and elevator barely functioning. everyone seemed to leave me to my fate then out of the blue comes 4 typhies screamin in from behind me and put me in the tower. Im not complaining or whineing about it thats the game but when a guy will resist shooting you down because he knows or sees you are havein enough trouble just staying airborne that shows real character. not a cheap shot for an easy kill

Wow, that's commendable behavior. IRL, a few shot-the-pieces B-17s were escorted to the channels by luftwaffe fighters as well. I love to see that.

I would have left the tiffie go, but shot down the bombers.

That's nice when it happens.   itunes

Yeah, exactly:

http://aviationartstore.com/chivalry_in_the_air.htm

- including photos of the B-17 captain and the 109 jock together, after the war.

"As they finally cleared the coastline, Stigler pulled a little forward of Charlie's window. Charlie looked out and saw Stigler raise his right hand and saluted "Yea Old Pub", Charlie and his brave crew. The right wing of the German fighter raised and exposed the sky blue bottom of the Messerschmitt as Stigler banked away and reversed his course toward his airfield. Stigler thought about the American airmen as he flew back to the safety of his base, a warm meal, a drink, and a good nights sleep."

Great stuff!
