Maybe I'm just still horrible shot or not hitting in right place here but it does seem like the 50s are butchered now. Previously I been able to bring down most planes easily. Now, it does seem like it takes lot of hits even up close to bring anything down (I aim for wing roots usually)  Have the 50s been effected by the update?

Try hitting at the convergence point for maximum damage to the target.  There hasn't been any changes to the .50 cal in AH.

Nope, still as brutal as ever (well since a long long time ago). My Converge is all set at 325. YMMV.

Thanks for the input; guess I'll just have to learn how to shoot better :)

Only if the target is 200 yards out when you get the snapshot. Seems most times (for me, mind you) snapshots are further out.

I have most of my 50cal planes set at 325.  Coming in on the 6 of a enemy 1000...800...600...400...wait BOOM.  If I know I am hunting bombers I'll set them out a bit further...but even 325 works good on them in a slashing attack.  I don't even bother firing if I can't get sub d400.  Ok I lied...I may spray to get them to turn...or just to say HI I am on your 6.

i had previously had mine set to max of 650.......but on advice of reputable players, i brough it in to 450(a lot told me 325 or so..i just couldn't make myself do it at that time), and was doing better than when they were at longer range. i just this tour brough them in to 350, as i noticed most of my shots were in the 300-350 range.......but even when i hit at that distance, it looks as if my hits are spread all over the plane.....it could just be me still sucking at gunnery too though....

could someone define snapshot? i think it to be something like this.......
i'm working on the hurri2 in front of me, and he's about 400-600 in front as i'm following and patiently working him in a bit closer, but there are other combatatents in the immediate area......suddenly, as i'm doing a quick scan for other bogies, i see a spit comming my fast....he flies right in front of me, and as he does so, i fire off a quick burst if i think he's going to go through my sights....and i often hit them this way.  this is a snapshot? sorry if this sounds dumb....i'm just not sure......

A snapshot is any shot where you are not tracking and leading the opponent for a shot. E.g target appears static relative to your gunsite.

FWIW, my kills seem to be roughly 50/50 snapshots/tracking shots. I would guess that the mean distance at kill would be around the 200-300 mark, but i compromise my convergence to be a bit further out, so that distance shots are not totally out of the question if i require to hit something at 400 or more. Setting to my mean point, lets say 250, would IMO compromise shots taken at 400 or more to a point to render them fairly ineffective. I think 325 is a good compromise setting which can cater for most scenarios i encounter, but not specialise in either distance or short shots.

Again, YMMV, as i think convergence is dependent on fighting 'styles' etc.

thats the shots you hear spikeX...a LOT more hits are required to blow buffs winqs off.

btw snapshot amateurs fly cannon planes usually, and If you start firing at 200 with 50 cals in a steady shot you got it all wrong IMO, you are not using the bullet superiori speed . Some jug pilots set convergence to max and start firing at D800, with no tracers....that IS deadly.

I recorded it once and looked at the film...I had about 7 pings and I was going down...that was some time ago though.
