Question to HTC: Possible to do this...?
« on: February 20, 2008, 03:19:22 PM »
Is it possible to disable the formation feature of a bomber based on a weapon loadout?

I notice something similar on the Ar234 when you don't have enough perks that it's just not an option.

I'm wondering if the same logic could be applied to some bombers.

Example: B-25C solid nose vs glass nose. Solid nose isn't a level bomber so probably shouldn't have drones (same reason -25H doesn't have 'em).

However, I'm also thinking about a hypothetical He-111H with a troop option and a bombload option (but not both). I'm wondering if the formation can be forced off if troops are selected instead of bombs.

Is this possible HTC?

Why are the solid noses not capable of level bombing?  You only need a couple equipped with a bomb sight, the rest can drop on cue to the lead.
I regret doing business with TD Computer Systems.

No other solid-nose plane in this game has formations. I think the formations exist only on the -25C because of the glass nose variant, which has a bombsight.

You might as well have A-20Gs fly formations with a Boston III and drop when it drops. It's not going to land where you want.

Also, the A-20G, the Mossie, the B-25H, none of these have formations.

Specifically I was thinking about a bomber that could also carry troops. You can't have a formation of troops. Hitech has said something along the lines of "we could enable formations on troops, but we'd just up the capture settings to require a full formation" -- so any new troop carrying craft must carry only as many troops as the c-47 does now, for gameplay considerations.

That's what I was thinking about.

Another candidate for Tilts Attack role agenda.

If troop carriers were defined as attack ac then troops would only be available when attack was selected (for dual purpose troop carriers/bombers) and then formations would be disabled.

Myriad other ways to do it also

Are you saying that the B-25C loses the formation option if ATTACK mode is selected? I never tried it, so I haven't noticed.

Or are you saying that's your wish?

I'm just wondering if it could be done without much recoding.

A Ju-52 could carry bombs, troops, or supplies. A He111 could carry bombs, troops, or supplies. However, only the bomber version should get formations, not the other versions.

Short Sterling MkIV

Heavy bomber modified to a glider tug, fast cargo carrier, 36 troop transport or 24 paratrooper transport.

All but the tail turrent was removed. The heavy bomber versions MkI-III carried 18,000 lb of ordinance.
