A real (partial) cure to garbage is reduced packaging, much of which often only serves a marketing purpose. Good idea but there is a lobby against this solution, not one for it like you have with recycling :)

If is such a problem then quit putting crap in the plastic bubble wrap that is almost impossible to get open without a trench knife.

All the hippies need to stop buying bottled water in plastic bottles.
