Landing PT Boats
« on: February 21, 2008, 09:14:29 AM »
Assumed landing a PT boat at a spawn point was the same as landing a GV.  That does not seem to be the case.  If I return to the spawn point with a PT boat I get a message saying I ditched rather than landed.  I zoom in completely on the map and make sure the boat is over the arrow head.  I still get a ditch rather than landing.  Is there a secret I’m missing or is it a bug in the game?  It sure can’t be driven back to the hangar.:)
Balrog in game. Some day my performance may justify the name. LOL

You can get a sucessful PT landing by exiting next to the Task group near where you spawned. Of course you have to time it right. PTs take some time to stop and the TG is moving along by you but it can be done.
For airfields if they are real close to shore there maybe a runway real real close to shore. If beached myself near the runway in that situation and landed sucessfully.
I've never had a good landing just going back to a spawn point and exiting except right next to the TG.
Far too many, if not most, people on this Board post just to say something opposed to posting when they have something to say.

Maybe that could be an addition? Have little boat houses on the water if the airfield is right off it?

The only way I have ever landed a PT Boat successfully is within the ring of task group Destroyers.

Get near the front of the Task Group, throttle all the way back, throw it in reverse, throttle up until you stop moving, cut the engine and .ef (just like you would in a real boat except the .ef part).
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

I once took a pt off the cv group that had it's carrier just destroyed, i lived, grabbed a few kills, but the cv respawned hundreds of miles away.

So i point my little boat to the nearest port and went to make my self lunch. When i finished my lunch the boat was just a few mins away from port( it was a long lunch;) )

It was fun, in a way.I landed successfully at the port too.

I guess you can land kills in a PT boat. Funny thing is, no matter what I've tried, I've never done it. One time I had five kills. I knew that just getting more than 6k from the cons wouldn't give me a landing so I tried getting out of radar range of the enemy port.

I headed out to sea and kept an eye on the map with the radar range icons displayed. After maybe 20 minutes or so, I thought I was out of radar range. I ended sortie and was told I had ditched.

Come to think of it, in the over three years of playing, I don't believe I've ever seen an announcement of someone landing two kills or more in a PT boat.

The only time I have ever been sucessful in landing a PT boat is at the docks at the port.  Just pull into one of slots and be at a full stop.
