Question for Pyro/Superfly
« on: February 22, 2008, 01:22:40 PM »
We love the new ships you guys have added. :aok

Are you going to allow players to take control of an individual destroyer or will the current control mechanism remain?

It would revolutionize gameplay by adding controllable destroyers similar to a tank and fire control like a bomber. :D

it would be interesting to command a destroyer independently from a task group.   A mannable submarine would have value under such conditions....

It's not a car/tank/truck, like the GVs in this game. It's never going to act like them.

Might as well ask to be able to fold corsair wings whilst in flight to pull off bizarre in-flight manuvers and dives.

Silly request.

I don't think it was silly. I could see this in the future. Maybe not this update, but I could see players having some DD's to control that are separate from the large task groups.

Wish we were getting a Japanese fleet as well.  Would add spectacularly to the immersion of PTO events.

An interesting request.  Destroyers right now are just flak batteries and shields.  They could be a lot of fun for use in close shore bombardments.

Their use against NME CV groups is also non-existent.

Looking at the pictures:

There are some obvious offensive weapons that could be used against CV/CAs just like with PT boats.

It would fun to be able to man the destroyer's torpedo tubes... That would add a new dimension to fleet fights.

Having one 5" gun available to be manned would be nice. More than that would make it suicide to get too close... But, that might be what it takes to keep the dive bombing Lancasters at bay.

I recall we asked Dale this question at the last con two years ago and i think a few of us have asked for this over two years ago.   I dont recall his answer but I think it was favorable and something that could be done.

My original request was to just be able to spawn a destroyer from a port and operate it similar to a PT boat.  Maybe use bomber perk points and charge 100 or more.   Another idea would to be allow each of the destroyers to be "captained" like the CV group.

Somebody asked about steering the CV manually (kinda like what you asked here) at the big con. The podcast had somebody explaining it's just not possible. The fleet is programmed a certain way. It's not separate vehicles, and you can't just steer it like you want.

So unless there's a HUGE recode (not too likely considering they've got CT to do) that starts over from scratch, including redoing the water system, I just don't see it happening in AH.

They should make the CV harder to kill 8000lbs is not enough. especially now with the Essex class Carrier on the way.

We already have an Essex class CV. They are just updating the graphics.

hell krusty, just copy the PT code and put the destroyer paint on top then modify the PT code for a bigger boat.  How impossible would that be?
