I'd have a better chance in running into a Dodo Bird in the middle of rush hour, walking down the I-5 with two hookers in tow before I see a useful post from glock89- Ack-Ack

I'd help fund it without a problem, but would like to get 1-2 guys from each country, to help keep it fair and together.

I'm pretty sure sponsorships deals will be straight forward on this one. Even 12-year old CS geeks can get free friggin' tshirts and hardware for their little clans....

absolutely. Most likely, it could run via either a browser or through your favorite mp3 player, ie. iTunes, winamp etc.

its little more involved then that, getting sponsors arn't that hard, in any event, its not that much money, were not paying 100 bucks a month for a cs server to begin with but just a winamp broadcast server, which is generally 25 bucks can get 100 listeners at decent quality

Come to think of it, getting sponsors so we could give away a piece of hardware once a month wouldn't be a bad idea, think I could wringle some of those up, for example we could get an nvidia video card for someone to upgrade with, or sticks of ram, that sorta thing.

I used to have a gaming clan in counterstrike was sponsored by nvidia and AMD, had a ball with the stuff they would send us after winning a major tournament, think with this community be easier to ask for sponsors.

That's what Im talking about! :)

ANyways, you seem to have full grasp of the tech side of things. Let me know if you need any help - or the 2 gigs of 40s radio shows and/or 40s music. Graphic design is my game 10 years+, so I'll put in work when and if needed.

A new server is being set up at the moment, Adonai what's typical bandwidth usage? I may be able to run it for free.

It won't be run off a home computer connection, maybe for 5 listeners at max
Generally speaking I would start off with 25 person connection with a GOOD audio rate, cant remember i think 47000 was good rate of playback.

Price range for that generally varies, would recommend paying for a good solid connection, generally they are 1-2 dollars per listener, i.e 25 listeners 50 dollars, it all depends where, I prefer Virginia area (most stable for me I host 2 internet radio stations up there) so far only been down 1 day of last 5 years. impressive!

I was doing some calculations earlier on.

56 kbit streams = 25 megabyte per user per hour

=

2.5 gb per hour @ 100 users = 60 gb per day

=

1800 gb per month

I estimate a server and bandwidth cost @ ~ $200/month. Correct me if I'm off the mark here.

But if I'm right thats nuffin.

50 users, 60 gigs traffic, probably around 25 a month. Its generally around $2.50 per 10 gigs of traffic. It all depends the users and Bandwith you use a month.

I would say start out on something like that and test it per month, i.e if server gets 50 right off bat you can always add or take away some listeners. Was looking around its quite cheaper today then when I origionaly started lol

internet radio has been screwed over by U.S. congress...

a law they passed about over a 1/2 year ago made it that web radio stations would have to pay a royalty for EACH SONG PLAYED to the respective record companies...

the law killed my favorite station-Shanty Raid-io (it was a fan-created radio station for Three Ring's Yohoho! Puzzle Pirates)

so unless you gots a lotta money or if people accept perks as currency it my be hard to do
