By trial and error I have found that the " at War" series is just fantastic, Osprey books seem to be ok but not as good of a value as the aforementioned "at War" series, and from what I've seen the "X in Action!" series is pretty pathetic when it comes to getting facts and picture captions right. Any real good series that you guys know of? I'm most interested detailed performance specs and real world tactics employed, not so much in the ideology of leaders and generals etc..

Jane's for info.

Military field and tech manuals for theoretical tactics and getting the nitty gritty details on weapon systems.

Maybe military encyclopedia's (I have 26 volumes covering WW2 for example) to give a grand overview of weapons and their usage in specific era's) These tend to be good with weapon data but more strategic in battle coverage.

Books on specific battles at the tactical level to study how weapons are used real world style.

Jane's I'm sure has a website. The Military FM's would be available from surplus stores, gun stores and maybe even some .gov or .mil websites

I read the entire "Wingman" series. It's about a future group of post appocolyptic flyers and one bad bellybutton mofo that has the last F16 known to man. It was pretty good until it started messing with alternate dimensions and such.
