Big prettythang BLT
« on: February 22, 2008, 08:36:14 PM »
Well, the wife & kid are out of town for the weekend. Papabear has the night to himself…. Now I don’t cruise the bars much anymore, so I needed some other way to cut loose.

You have to understand that I live with two health conscious women. The kind of girls who would not see the adventure in taking food to the extremes… So when I’m alone, I explore the boundaries of eating insanity. Tonights mission (should I choose to accept it) a 3-pound BLT.

I first made a loaf of egg bread in the machine. Normal wonder bread white slices would just not be up to this task. I needed a bread with structural integrity! I also needed: 3 pounds of bacon, some lettuce, and a tomato.

 Here is what 3 pounds of cooked bacon looks like. (Okay, I ate 2 slices and drank a beer while cooking it.)

Toast 2 center slices of my homemade bread, add some lettuce and tomato, then a healthy spread of Miracle Whip Lite (I am after all watching what I eat!)

Add 4 beers, and an evening of Aces High!

The end is in sight! (Actually, the first & last bites were eaten like a sandwich, the rest required a fork… There was also an additional layer of tomato added midway.)

A total of 5 beers later it was finished. The only witness…

It was hard not to give her a bite... Darn those big sad eyes.

BRILLIANT!

Chicken Fried Bacon

    * 1 lb thick sliced bacon , cut in half
    * 1 egg
    * 1/2 cup milk (or cream or half & half)
    * 1/2 cup flour
    * spices (optional)
    * oil (for frying)

Cream Gravy

    * 3 tablespoons drippings or butter
    * 3 tablespoons flour
    * 2 cups milk
    * 2 tablespoons heavy cream (whipping)
    * salt and pepper , heavy on the pepper

1
Heat oil in a frying pan over med-high heat.

2
Whisk egg and milk together in a bowl.

3
Place flour in another bowl - season it if you'd like (garlic, pepper, salt, lemon, cajun, etc.).

4
Double dip - first in the egg mixture, then into the flour and repeat.

5
Fry in oil until golden brown.

6
Serve with cream gravy for dipping; also good served with steak.

7
To make cream gravy:.

8
Put drippings or butter in a sauce pan over med-high heat. Whisk in the flour until well blended; cook over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes, until bubbly. Remove from heat and gradually add milk whisking constantly; return to heat & whisk until the gravy thickens; Whisk in the cream, salt & pepper.

Where's that picture of Homer Simpson drooling when you need it.

Dang I'd have to change my name after eating one of those...

but only temporarily.

I'd gladly pay you Tuesday for one of those BLT's today!

My wife and the rest of the Operating Room Crew will be standing by with the Thorasic Surgeon to do your quadruple heart bypass.

Might as well smoke a carton or two on your way there.
