Hitech has said the reason you have to land on the cement at a field and not just "near" it is to give you a challenge. You don't, then you don't get the mini-reward (name in lights).
You don't make it back to the runway, you don't get the reward.
With this suggestion, it cheapens the efforts of those that DO make it back. Sure it's not much of a reward at all, but it's fun to see. If you did NOT make it back (required more gas) that would be the same as not getting the reward. Dropping off supplies may help you get back to the runway, but the challege was already lost as soon as you picked up those supplies.
It's a game. There has to be some challenge involved. I've glided over 2 sectors in a b-17 and touched down without hardly any gas left. It was much more of a fun experience than if I had set down, got supplies, and reupped. Further, it will stick in my mind longer because of this.
So, if you implement this idea, but it doesn't change ANY other aspect of the game (you still don't get the perk bonus for landing, nor do you get the reward of your name in lights) then there's no problem.
However, if you just want it as a crutch because you want your rewards but didn't quite earn 'em, then I have a problem with it.
If you see my point?
