Squad question
« on: February 25, 2008, 10:09:02 AM »
Well, sort of a survey.  How many squads out there are country specific and only fly for specific country?  For those that change countries, do you lose members when changing countries?  For those that fly for whatever country whenever they want, how do handle squad nights/squad operations?  Any pros/cons with switching countries/not switching countries?  Any squads put restrictions on squaddies flying for different countries?

Again, I am just trying to survey the group here.  I am motivated by the freakin ENY thing and the impact it has on being able to fly what I want, when I want.  Any input y'all have would be appreciated.

The Aces & 8s are Rooks only as a Squadron. Individual Members may fly in another country whenever they wish, but not with another Squaddie. If you should happen to see another A8 in Bishland or flying with the Knights, he is usually flying with a non-squad friend.

My squad have just adopted a new policy of swapping every 4 months.

It gives us a chance to make new friends and freshens the game up.  Player numbers are the biggest influence and in the past we have tried to play for the team with the least amount of numbers.

I haven't yet come across a member who would not swap out of the "chess piece loyalty" mentality.  They might not like it but they need to realise that stereotyping other countries style of play isn't really on. All teams get up to equal amounts of dweebery.  You'll find that if your squad is doing well people will sit up and take notice when they find your in green.

If the team we are on have a horde brewing, we would try the other arena, knowing that we will be outnumbered or if it comes to it swap for a couple of hours.

80th Headhunters normally fly on the low number team. Other Squaddies coming in will check the roster for numbers and if numbers are way off he will announce it and all the guys will go to that country. Otherwise any time we are on we can fly any arena. We generally search out eachother and fly together.

As for stringent rules and regulations we are a relaxed squad. For instance I have been the LO (Latrine Officer) since day one. I was also placed on PPD (potato peeling duty ... I was told due to my excellent abilities) till I tried to do both duties at the same time and some squaddies noted a distinct odor and flavor to said potatoes. I am now just acting LO.

The Pigs on the Wing Squads 1 & 2 fly Knights only, and always have.  I have only seen exemptions to this when a special event requires that the country be changed.

71 Squadron flies only as Knights. I have swapped countries before joining them, but the general reasoning (to dumb it down) is that the point is to fly WITH squaddies, not AGAINST them.

For years I was C'z on AW and "never" changed countries.  The debate of which countries in AW equate to which country in AH doesn't matter, but I joined AH and adopted ROOKS as my country, that will never change!
I don't believe in swapping countries for ENY or how many are flying at the time. I believe the ENY thing is a stupid idea because no one said the world is fair and to force "fair" on folks is a left wing ideology which has never worked wherever it's been tried.

FAIR by your reasoning is what you want it to be? This is a GAME not RL so a game has to attempt to keep an even keel or historically it will fail.

I think if the truth be known... there are folks who change teams to be on the high number team or to be on the one that has the most bases or is about to reset.

The 80th goes to the low number team because it makes it much easier to find a fight. Not a thing to do with ENY as we fly 38s not perk planes.

To each his own! :aok

My squad the 613th was created as a Knight squadron and will stay that way.  If the ENY is too bad, or the arena is full, we change to a different arena, not usually a problem.

I have no problem with squads or individuals that do switch if it's done with class.

One day I was attacking a Vbase with someone.  He was bring troops, I was holding down the uppers.

He died, I died, I returned only to be killed by the very guy who was assisting me.  That was a no class move, by a player that is know for that type of play.

The AK's switch every tour.  No matter their chess piece they play with honor and always bring a good fight.  I wish they would stay nit though, I can't seem to best Dogg EVER!!!!

When it comes to ENY, I usually fly high ENY planes, so rarely am I restricted.  When it gets over 20 or so, I usually do a buff run or something else since it often resolves itself after a little while.

Our squad is largely (but not exclusively) foucsed on FSO, though there are some who log considerable MA time.

332nd Flying Mongrels almost all, almost always fly for Knights. There is no rule as such, but we like to fly together where possible. Knights are more of a stroing tradition than a rule, but there are definitely guys in the squad who are traditional country loyalists.

The "almost all" comes in because I like to jump around, though I think I'm the only Mongrel who does so.  I'll change countries for side balancing, for a running fight between two bases, to fly with friends on other countries espeically if I haent seen them for a while. (Generally only only do that when no squaddies are on.)

Or at list thats what the TV said, lol.

On the other hand, I am glad to be in communist country that provides for fair opportunities and equal rights for education, jobs, speech, etc. and the state provides free and equal police protection, fire departments, schools etc.

How do you guys do it in your right wing country? :rofl

Gruppe Outlaws mainly fly with Rooks, but members can switch countries if they like (ENY too high, or just no fights on Rook side). We try to have a Squad Night every Monday (it may be Tuesday, I actually forget :D ), but it won't always work out.

My squad flies Rooks. Most of the time we are rooks no matter what, but thats due to flying for the challange of the low numbers, or flying away from the "numbers" when we have ENY the challange of older/weaker equipment.

On the other hand, switching country is not a problem, some prefer to fly on the low numbers side, some switch to fly with old friends for a night. More often than not we hook up with each other tho

For the point of the survey;

Our Squad flies Knights, but had a short stint over on Bish for a week or so.

From the internal talk I believe that if our squad stayed over on Bish, some squadies would have left the squad to stay Knight.  I guess there are various reasons for this; "I've always be a knight" or flying with non-squadies who are on a particular side.
