Face it, the AvA has been this way since forever. Gang bangs, alt monkeys, timid cowards, you name it, it's been there. Whether it's good or bad I won't make a judgement, I'm just pointing out it's been there all along.

Maybe you've only just now realized this? Welcome to the revelation

As always Krusty attempts to save us all with his piety.  If only we would heed the words of the Krusty.

Uh, what?  Sorry man, but (at least from when I joined this particular game in Feb 2006) until about 4 months ago, the AvA was a much different place than it is now.  I suppose I do need to remind you that I've been playing WWII flight combat sims for over ten years, so I just might know what I'm talking about.  The 'air-quake' mentality that has been so prevalent in the MA's (and I'm not even complaining about the MA's; they is what they is) has finally gobbled up the AvA.

First there was an unwritten code of conduct in the AvA.... then it got bad enough that it had to actually be written and put in the MOTD.  That didn't work so now it's gone and it's a MA-style free-for-all now.

I guess you can say now, 'at least there are more players in there', but that's like having a bunch of homeless bums in your restaurant and saying 'at least people are coming in'!

Trust me, I've been popping in and out of the AvA for many years.

Your "unwritten rules" are bullsquat. Nobody ever followed them. EVER. No matter when I've played, even way back when it was fun (in the "good old days") those rules were just wishful thinking on the part of a select few.

Here's the problem with the AvA: The folks attached to it (like yerself, and myself long long ago) look at it with rose colored glasses.

It is NOT just the past 4 months, because I've barely flown in that time frame. It's been this way for a LOOOOOOONG time. I see an interesting plane setup and pop in, only to find total cherry picking, alt monkeying, gang raping, field hording (as close as can be done without ack interfering) and the like.

There are many reasons you may not have taken notice of this, but for simplicity's sake let's just chalk it up to being carried away in the moment and not paying attention.

I reiterate: This is not a new development!

Scotty - I'm curious - why so hostile? Your comment does not represent this issue which has already been discussed several times.  Don't be baited by the troll-fighters.

Three points:
1. 10-15 players per night (if we were lucky) was not working and is not sustainable in the long-term for the AvA.
2. Past game setups were used close to 6 years. The adage goes, change is good donkey[/b][/u]. Try something new.
3. This design is to create an arena that has objectives and tactics similar to tasked-based gameplay - which strange enough is the game model of the upcoming Combat Theatre.

Few can see the forest for the trees and cry foul when we make attempts what we see as improvements to this arena.  As volunteers, we use our own time to try and give the AvA community an enjoyable place to hang out and fly. Sometimes the AvA volunteers are going to make decisions that may ruffle a few feathers... but change rarely comes easy.

Sorry, Senor Fork. Guess the trolls did get me a little worked up.

Anyway, I'll lay off.  After all, I am just one opinion and it's apparent that I am in the minority.

Even if I disagree with where the AvA is going, I still want to give you guys props for volunteering your time and effort into it.

I agree with you d0gma. I got tired of the MA and now AvA is the mini MA.

Seriously, what gives? What is the purpose of the way things are in the AvA now?  I really don't get it.

Flame away.

The purpose was to bring in more people at any cost.  Why?  Not sure, but they were successful :aok

Maybe being the CEO of a company with 40 employees is not good nuff.  Maybe the CEO wanted to run a company with 150 people.  If you ask me, the reasons were personal and had nothing to do with what is good for the AvA or promoting historical fights
