I own the '69 brit movie on the battle of britan but... that is not what we are talking about here are we?

We are talking about making a story about the lives of the interesting guys that were in the battle.

and.. along those lines..   it seems odd that a movie about a character in the BOB who was larger than life would be considered boring cause he only shot down one plane yet....

some of you are getting all wet about an entire squadron.. tuskagee.. who never created an ace.

curval..  I don't know about teaching monkeys to post better than me... or anyone else for that matter but I could certainly teach em to comprehend posts better than you and expat..

re-read this...  "all this begs the question...

Why don't brits make movies about the LIVES OF THEIR GUYS who fought in the battle of britan?

they have the studios and the actors and the material."

Like I said..  I own the '69 movie on the battle..   Now let's talk about the pilots.

When talk of that film first came out a while ago, Tom Cruise was supposed to star in it.

If you were to do it right, there is a story that would be an interesting one to tell.  There were 4 RAF pilots who first met during the Winter Olympics of 37-38 where they all competed.  Billy Fiske, Roger Bushnell (Great Escape)  Willie Rhoades Moorehouse (KIA BoB) and Max Aitken

To somehow follow their lives from the test of the Olympics to the horror of war, would in my mind make for an interesting story and it wouldn't just be about the American.    Moorehouse was the son of a KIA VC winner in World War I.  Growing up with that to live up to must have been hard.  Bushnell's story is well known enough as the mastermind behind the Great Escape.  He'd gone down in a Spitfire over Dunkirk as CO of 92 Squadron.

All 4 served in 601 Squadron RAF, unofficially known as "The Millionaire's Squadron"

It goes on and on.  Of the 4, only Max Aitkin survived the war.

I don't know lazs.  Perhaps they were just boring compared to this fellow.

What would you rather watch, a great film about the war with lots of combat footage or some love story about one American flier who *might* have gotten a kill?

I assume this must be a love story...if not what?  Was the guy a good comedian or something?  Did he play lots of jokes on his squadees?

Either way, I don't care.  Show me the dagadagadaga.

curval..  I don't have any comment on the choice of fiske.. Don't know enough about him.

I am just saying that I am sure there must be a lot of brit pilots from the battle who would make for a great movie.

I was just wondering why the brits don't do it.   Like I said..they have the studios and they have the actors.

I personally like the battle stuff more myself but if a character is interesting enough it sure as hell would be worth watching.

Just watched the assassination of jesse james..  now.. there really wasn't much action in the movie considering his career in both the civil war and after but it was a very interesting character study about a very interesting guy.

I have no idea other than the practical.  What percentage of people other than GEEKS like us would wanna pay to see it ?  Would Yanks, Kiwi's, Diggers, knucks or any other English speaking nation go see, on mass, a film about a Brit pilot.  Who would cough up the dosh on such a risky investment?

Other considerations :-  Some of the BoB guys are still kicking.   Europe is a stones throw.  British reserve / stiff upper lip.

Personally I'd love to go see a remake of Dam Busters, Battle of Britain (dagadaga) and a TRUE version of Bridge over the River Kwi but I'd have to go all caveman on me Mrs if I wanted her to go with me.

I actually know a lot of women who do enjoy those historical war movies- I took my GF at the time to see Saving Private Ryan when it came out and she loved it.

Of course that was a week before I left for basic and she flipped out on me...
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.
