need some computer help
« on: February 27, 2008, 08:10:37 PM »
i am trying to help my mother and aunt with a project and need a little help so i am asking if somebody in the community could help.  What i need is someone who has  microsoft works who can convert a database(.wdb) file to an  excel file (.xls)   My parents donated their old computer that had works on it and now only have office like me.  I can email you the file, and from what i understand you can save it in works as a .xls format that excel can open.  It isn't any confidential info just an alumni list from there high school they have to update for reunion uses.   It is only like a 199kb file.  I have tried to use a few of the free converters that you don't have to have works installed for but none of them have worked correctly.   This help would take someone less than 5 minutes and would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You

I make it a rule that I won't open up a file from anyone that I don't know their home address so that if I was infected with a virus I could rip their head off and stuff my laptop down their blood-pumping neck.  16 years virus-free because of this "rule" I have.  All that is required is discipline

rip i understand what you are saying, but i think that is a little pessimistic view to take.  I have been a member of the aces community under different callsigns since 2001 and have shared files and emails with other members and never had any problems.  I  still see a few guys from the first squad i was ever in and and would not hesitate at all to open something they sent me.  I was hoping maybe by posting on the bb someone who knows i am someone who is not trying to send them some virus could help out.
bcadoo i did a lot of google searches and came up with the same thing as you.  It seems that this is the only converter out there that actually works.  The funny thing is if you look at the price it is cheaper to just by a copy of works to convert it in myself.

i just remember i think my cfi has works i think i will call him in the morning and find out.  If that doesn't work out i found out that the version of works that created the files were pretty old release and i found some on ebay for a couple of bucks.
