My Top Varmint Killer Gets Beautiful Makeover

My favorite varmint killing rifle, my Savage Model 93 Stainless Heavy Barrel in 17 HMR, just got a major upgrade installed for the coming Varmint extinction season.

When I bought this rifle I unfortunate purchased the cheapest version of it, that had a very plain plastic stock.   Well, for accurate shooting in either the field, or from a shooting bench at a range, it was not at all ideal.

So I ordered a custom varmint style stock from Sharp Shooters Supply, and then waited 2 months and a week.   Well, it arrived and is now installed, all good to go for this year's hunting.

Here is a photo of the rifle with the original flimsy stock:

And here it is now reborn, much like a beautiful butterfly:

Note how much straighter the new stock is, and the much more substantial grip that it has.   The fore end also widens out, and is flat on the bottom.   This makes for a very solid rest from a shooting bench, or when shooting with a bipod attached to the rifle in the field.

The new stock is also much heavier, so the rifle will move even less with recoil, thus giving me an even better view of the bullets striking the animal through my telescopic sight.

Never really been a fan of the multi-hued stocks...but that is gorgeous.......

Bet it handles a damn sight better now too.

That's a pretty piece, SIG. You're going to love what the stock change does for your accuracy. It will be interesting to see a comparison of before/after group sizes.

Did you ever check the bedding on the old stock? I second the question about the bedding and or floating barrel on the new on as well. Pretty does not equate to good shooting.

SIG, I have that exact rifle. I've been contemplating getting a new laminate stock for it. Your Savage turned out really nicely. It's a great rifle for the price, but the Tupperware stock leaves a lot to be desired. .17HMR is a fun lil' round.

I always liked varmint shooting. Its at its best when its mixed with good calling and its probably the single best way to realisticaly hone rifle skills. I alwas had a gas shooting dogs out west and the ranchers loveya for it. Nice rifle...enjoy.

I call shenanigans

That recliner doesnt have any hint of potato chip crumbs, popcorn or orange cheese-poof debris.

:)

Kinda like the old stock better.  That tide-dye stock is kinda odd.

The gun shot perfectly fine with the old stock.   I did not get the new stock due to any accuracy issue.
