Questionable settings

You all really don't want folks to come in the AvA, do you?

I went in there to look around. The planeset is ... "questionable".... Apparently you've got the same 1940 setup, but arbitrarily added p38gs and p47d11s and b25cs to the allies. I saw some 190s gang raping a single con over his own field, so I figured I'd jump over there, and see what their hangar list was like to see what I wanted to fly or what I was up against, only I hit the wrong country.

I type in .country 2 (I think) and it moves me to an off-map lone knit field. Whoops, I picked the wrong number! I type .country 3, and get "You cannot change countries for 39 more minutes"

W..... T...... F.....???

The AvA has almost NEVER had time limits on switching. It's part of the very CORE of the AvA to switch to even the damn teams!!

I logged instantly, not being able to do anything.

Let me step onto my soapbox and rant a bit here:

Forget the major leap in planeset (from spit1/hurr1/p40b to p38g/p47d11? Either make it a logical rolling planeset or just start over with a new planeset <-- P.S. This is what I was expecting to happen) but IMO the AvA is getting out of hand.

It's not a scenario. Pretending it is won't make it one. It's not about base capture, and while constructing a base capture mechanism may be fun, you can't chastize folks for not mass-gooning an undefended field, and you can't reward folks for doing the same. Organization seems to be one of the key factors in the recent burst of activity, so perhaps finding a way to keep the organization but losing the total emphasis on milkrunning/landgrabbing might improve the overall condition.

Have you considered a single knit base in between both rook/bish sides? Side that captures and holds it longest wins? It would keep the organization a key element, be a large staging area for fights, and yet lose the collective paranoia about spies and traitors and all that BS.

Back to my main point: You really want to screw folks over so they don't come back? The side switch timer is one way of doing it very well.

Krusty this isnt the same ol AvA. The war is on so not alot of people are going to switch just to even the numbers. Best thing to do is pick a side and stick with it. They put the 40min limit so the idiot MAers that like to spy cant in here. We had early war setup last week. this week the winners got a pick of four planes and losers got a pick of three from a list the CMs have made. The C/O on each side picks which he wants that side to have.

 The nit base in the middle would never work because theres no telling how long each side has had it. How it is now is each side gets bases picked by the CMs to capture and hold untill the end of that round. They are posted on each of the privite forums so the other side has no clue which one you need. Each of those fields are certain points. At the end of the week the CM logs on and tallys the points and says who won.

As TK said the odd planeset is the result of the CO.  Each round he has the power to choose aircraft from a list.  The number of aircraft he chooses is determined by who won the previous round.

The switchtimer was put in place because we had players playing spying, swapping sides to prevent a capture, moving our cv's, etc.

krusty, did getting whacked a few times in a row have something to do with your decision to switch?  did it occur to you look at the map and see what countries were in play as a time saving measure?

actually I'm not a fan of the war on a personal level but on an AvA supporter/player level the war is the singlemost significant idea that the staff has come up with since the inception of the CT way back when.  the war is working and from the point of acceptance by a much broader playing field it is a smashing success.  we are seeing numbers equal to both the EW ans MW on many nights.  I salute the staff for their hard work and consistent fine tuning of the product.  in private I take the staff to task for what I perceive to be faux pas execution and some of the stuff you mention I agree with, why not PM them with your ideas?  you are a bright guy and I'm sure your ideas will be given their due consideration.

Why does every answer has to do with the People from the MA. Your Proplem is with HTC that took your Arena away not the New People that are checking this Arena out.

why does krusty feel he has to do a 20 minute negative dissertation on something that, everyone who has been playing the game, already knows?? play awhile and learn the rules, then whine. as for side switching, we dont want people to be able to side switch. in WW2 they called them traitors and shot them.

From what I can tell JG54 still owns the arena.

I mean what were these guys thinking. We used to fly off in different directions, stay away from people's bases, let them get to alt, even the numbers, and stay out of fights. This was when some called it our "playground" or "sandbox".

Now the accepted practice is to fly organized, as a group, to establish air superiority, to stick to a side, to obliterate your defenses and beat up your pilots just to ram drunks up your map room. Do you really think players that can whup you in a fair fight can't effectively cap you into uselessness. What were you guys thinking, 'these guys may be good at air combat but they suck at base taking'?

Be careful what you ask for you may get it. Last night of round one, despite superior numbers, the allies couldn't take a single base from us. 2 days later, round 2, and the map looks like it did at the end of round one. If it wasn't for the off hours milkys there wouldn't be anything to do at night.

So nobody "took our arena away" they just turned it into a place that will never attract good flyers, just copious dweeben. They took away numerous good fights per hour, they took away a code of behavior, they took away the incentive for good fighters to try something different from the MA, they took away historic match ups. The arena's still there.

When they had that tank war not to long ago there was close to 60  or more people in there ready to have some fun and no CM showed up to set it up.

whatever gets the people in the arena is the bottom line.

Very true KONG I was at 19 last night. I logged after 2 hours of trying to take that base. Sad but true it seems to me the old Chicken without the Head going on here. Im sure if the Second line bases were as the front line bases we would have no place to up from

Because people that play the AvA before the war have no need to spy. Its the people that come in there from the MA that bring thier MA tactics with them. I bet you werent there went a MAer was on axis moved a CV to an enemy base, then switched sides, rolled some B26s, and tryed to bomb it. if I wasnt there to man the 5'ers untill the CV was out of range of the base he would have sunk it. That was on the italy map where it takes like 6 hours to get the CV back in the fight. Now please name ONE AvA vet that has done something like this.

I agree that is Bush. So you have a Problem with HIM Not everyone that is going to the AvA. Im sure there is more then just him. I aslo enjoy the AvA VET. How long did you have to fly in the Arena before you can get on this List?  >G
