VMF-251 Recruiting
« on: March 04, 2008, 04:34:43 PM »
VMF-251 is still recruiting.

We've been active with the Rooks since November 2006, and fly primarily in the Late War mains. Our official squadron night is Saturdays at 8pm EST, with a training/practice generally scheduled at the same time on Wednesdays. In addition, VMF-251 is a participant in Friday Squad Ops (Fridays 11pm EST).

Our focus is on teamwork and cooperation, and our missions run a wide variety of profiles including fighter sweeps, ground attack, combat air patrol, base capture support, strategic and tactical air-support, and general furballing.

Our main ride is the Chance/Vought F4U-1A Corsair, and all of us are fans of the Bent Wing Bird, but we do frequently fly other rides as need or whimsy calls

If you'd like to know more about the squadron, check out our web page, and there's generally one of us on throughout the week.

Would I be able to join if I just want to have fun while participating in teamwork? I've only been flying in the MAs for about 4 days now, but I've gotten somewhere around 7 landed kills in the P38L and the 109E.

There is a trial of sorts where we have you wing with one of the more experienced pilots to get a feel for the squadron and see if we're what you're looking for, and vice-versa. Additionally, since most of our ops in the Mains are flown in Corsairs (primarily 1As, but we also use the other marks depending on the mission profile) if you have no interest in the Hogs whatsoever you might find us not so much to your taste. However the Corsair is a very rewarding aircraft once learned, and is one of the best all-around fighters in the game. Again, we do fly other aircraft as fancy or operational requirements dictates, and we don't require members to ONLY fly the F4U, but expect to get a lot of stick time in Hog during official ops on Saturday nights, and she's out primary request in FSO whenever available. If you're still interested you're welcome to wing up with us at any time in the Mains.

Myself, our XO MEF4UD, and our second Flight Leader CpMorgan are the best to contact in the arena. My handle in-game is the same as here on the boards.

Ah, alright, very cool  :aok
I'm not active much during weekdays, but weekends I can do. The hog is a good aircraft, I like it, and I'm interested in joining you guys.

The VF-31 Tomcatters w/o a doubt support the VMF-251 and hope others find a place in their squad, as they are a good group of guys that have a goal and have proven their respect amongst the Catters (VF-31) as well as the Rooks.

Yeah... We train Navy pilots as Marines first.  That's where the NAvy picks up their brawling skills you know.  :P  *joking*

I've flown with VMF-251 and they have a refreshingly unique method of improving your gunnery, which I shall not disclose in this unsecure transmission.

Really swel guys and great sticks to learn from.

My tag is EskimoJ . I'd like to point out that I do run on a GMT -9 (Alaska) Timezone, so I'd be on much later than most of you all.

VMF-251's official squad night is on Saturdays at 9pm EST, however there's generally several of us on at times throughout the week. I'll send the word out to my squad for them to keep their eyes out for you. In the meantime, probably the two best to look for in the Mains are squad X/O MEF4UD and Flight Leader CpMorgan if I'm not there. We fly Rooks in the two LW arenas.

There is a trial period where you fly with us for a period of time while you get a sense of us, and vice-versa. There's no real set length, as it depends on the individual. If you're definitely interested if you provide me with your e-mail address I can include you on the squad's mailing list (standard procedure, so you can keep in touch with us outside the game both so you can track what the squad will be doing when and where, and any questions you may have).

<S> and hope to see you up there.

I see three problems here...

Allow me to explain.  No, explaining would take too long.  Allow me to summarize:

Rook.  'Nuff said'

M.  Marine.  That means half your birds don't come with tail hooks installed, and real corsair pilots fly from corks.  Ok, granted, the Navy Department did not anticipate the sudden need for fighter pilots late in the war and started letting marines on deck for want of semi-trained simian pilots, but we have been trying to wash the smell out of our carriers ever since.  Also, any Marine with a rank of O-3 is going to have to get used to being called Major, because there is only one Captain aboard ship.

A. Real men fly the -1, only sissies fly the -1A.

I just posted to the VF-17 thread, too.  If you have an unlimited supply of F4U-1s I'd like to fly along and see the sights.  Us hog herders have to stick together...so if you have no objections hopefully I'll see some of your guys this weekend and I can tag along on a few flights.  Even more hopefully we might be able to teach each other some tricks.

A disguise may be in order so nobody sees me flying as a Rook, though.

Well, not likely to be changing countries any time soon, and we fly out of whatever field we are needed from, and our squadron is both equipped and trained for carrier operations (granted I'd love to have a fully land-based 1A short the extra 500lbs the wing folding and arrestor gear add on).

If it helps we DO fly the -1 Birdcage when the 1A or later is unavailable (ENY, MidWar, etc) ;)
