P-47D-15 was the first equipped with wing pylons.  Seeing how we have the D-11, no dice.

     CVE means escort carrier.  They sometimes used carrier to deliver land based
aircraft to distant bases.  Launch only.

Its either a mislabled caption, or a plane that had them retrofitted in the field, because the D-11 left the factory without wing pylons.  I don't know if they could retrofit the wing pylons on the older models or not.  There was a lot of plumbing and some structure added to support those.  Its probably just a typo on the caption.  By the time Saipan rolled around, most of the squadrons were using D-22/23's.

From what I've read (on this forum and other places) as the newer models came out for early 47s, those in-field were updated to the new standard. So they may have left the factory as a D-11, but if fully upgraded, uprated, whatever, they would be more equivelant to 47d22s or whatever (I'm just making up an example here).

We've got a stock example of a 47d11, not an upgraded.


You might want to just ask for a D22, but then we have an almost identical D25, so just fly that, IMO.
