Accurate assist mod...
« on: March 06, 2008, 11:30:38 PM »
I'd like to see accurate assists come around, rather than have 1 person get the kill and others get an assist. In RL the % of the kill was tally'd up by how many people put rounds into the plane i.e. if 2 people did, each person would get half a kill, if 4 people put rounds in, each would get a quarter of a kill and so on and so forth. This I think would be pretty simple to do cause all that would need to happen is instead of giving the kill to 1 person and assists to the rest, the computer allready has the information, so have it 'count' the number of people that would of gotten assists, +1 for the person who woulda got the kill, put it into a fraction ( i.e. 1/4) then change into a percentage, and give a '25% assist on xxx' message.

Of course someone would now reply with 'but then this would stop people from getting the kill on someone and they'd just shoot everyone they saw so they'd get assists' and so to counter that... add a time limit to the amount of time you have to get an assist on a plane, I think 1 minute should be enough. So, if you were blazing through, hittin everyone you could, and then someone shoots down a plane say 1 minute and 2 seconds later, you get nothing on it.

Cause see, this woulda also take away from the 'you stole my kill' thing goin on...

Now that I go back and read it... seems alot more complicated than it really is...

WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

I'd like to see actual determination of who gets the kill fixed first.

I've lost track of how many Spits I've sheered the wing off with less than a half-second burst of fire, only to lose the kill because someone put a single 20mm round somewhere that didn't cause a bit of structural damage. Hell, one time I took off both wings AND cut the fuselage in half with one short burst and still only got an assist out of it (even when the guy who actually got the kill had started to RTB and was a sector away!).  :P

Weight needs to be taken away from a hard count of total damage inflicted and given instead to hit location.  Even if I put a tater into a guy, if my round (for whatever reason) fails to cause any sort structural failure or some other type of significant or catastrophic damage at all but someone else gets lucky and caps the pilot with a single .303 round, then the guy who got the headshot should get the kill.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

I once suggested a concept of "decisive damage"; all hit points for each part would be awarded (for calculating the kill vs assist) to the one who puts in the last damage to break that part. That is what counts anyways, not the all around spraying which still leaves the enemy 100% functional.
No more assists if one doesn't actually break something visibly.

A matching analogy could come from football (Am.) where one guy carries the ball from own 20 yds line almost to other end. Then in next play another guy scores the touch down. Would we mark the TD for the first or the second guy?

Simple solution.......any damage done after the killing blow does not count. Then you can actually award perks to those getting assists . Only those who damaged the plane BEFORE the killing shot are awarded anything. Think about this.....if you fly right will this affect anything you do?  No and it shouldn't either.

IE I blow his wing off and you come with your 4 20's blazing you are awarded nothing.....
Bullets fired count as missed.....
No assist....
No kill....
No perks....

I think this would make people think about wasting bullets on a dumb move like kill stealing.

I do NOT think something has to fall off for you to count an assist. I cant count the times I have had 3 50 caliber hits break a wing because some put 3 20mm rounds in it before me (or vice versa) with no visible damage.

I do support a minimun damage required for an assist. Land 1 50 cal round and you get an "assist". Dont see this being like RL but I dont know WW2 kill/assist rules either.

IMO assists are pretty useless.
I'd rather limit them to minimum and count them as 1/2 kills when awarded.

-If one pilot scores more than 150% of decisive damage (broken parts) compared to 2nd scorer, there could be just that one kill, no assists.

-If the first and second best scorers are closer to each other in decisive damage, the kill would be shared between these 2 guys; thus 1/2 kill for both.

-The rest would only get some note like "you made some damage to ...."

Not all airforces did it that way in RL. I always found 1/2 kills rather bizarre. Getting an ace with 10 assists...

I like this idea, but other than that I think its fine the way it is.

I believe that if YOU are the one that does critical damage, then you should be the one to get the kill.  What I believe should be counted as critical damage is basically anything that leaves the craft unflyable or where the pilot cannot maintain sustained flight, ie:

Losing a wing
losing a tail
losing your vertical/horizontal stabilizers
pilot kill

Anything else, like killing an engine, knocking off elevators, or losing half of a wing shouldn't count as critical damage.  It doesn't matter if you knock off all the alierons, elevators, give a pilot wound, give him an oil leak, and scratch his/her paint job, they can still fly, and the person you knocks his wing off later should get the kill.

Damage model is lacking in critcal areas!

No hydrualic failures....
No electrical failures...
No partial damage to wings...(in RL if a wing was damaged it produced lower lift)
No overstress problems....(weak wings that will pop easier after overstressing them in a dive etc)
No gun jamming from overheat....
Dare I go on...

Damage model needs work...

However the assist/kill rules I think are good and reflect real life fairly well.
