P38G and J questions.....
« on: March 07, 2008, 08:41:55 AM »
Recently been putting sometime in the 38G. Had to leave my 38J behind in AvA. :cry

First off, in the hangar load outs, it says the 20mm on the G is a M1 whilst on the J its a M2. Is this a simple typo? If not (and I think not), then whats the difference in ballistics of the two?

Secondly, had a fun fight in a 38G against a 109G yesterday in the MW and he got a sustained rear aspect burst in at an angle which I know (after so many PW in a P38J) would have resulted in a PW had I been in a P38J. But I was surprised to see it didn't here . Which brings me to my second question, how does pilot armour compare between the G and J both in RL and in AH2? Does that forward glass plate return the protection I lost with the forward engine?

After the above incident I took the 38G for a few more sorties and deliberately HOed a V field ack (wasnt deacking, was conducting some research ;)). Rat-tat-tat-crunch. No PW called up damage list and lo and behold --> gun damaged . Think thats how its should be anyway and maybe the PW in the J needs another look :huh.

Anyone?

I keep seeing the 38G 38J mentioned but nothing about the 38L (?)
I'm a no skills (wannabe) non-38 driver and am a little confused. I understand the G is slower but turns better, but what about the 38L?
From what my inexperienced eyes see, is that the G & L look about the same in performance and weapons. Am I missing something here? I'd like to learn the 38 because it seems quite smooth, lands without issues and seems to have good weapons. My problem is, as a noob 38 driver, which is better, the J or L?  I don't think I'm ready to fly the G as it's slower and makes too big of a target for an inexperienced wannabe like me :)

G is slower but best turner among the 38s.
J is faster but rolls slowly at high speeds. J carries 6x 4.5" tune rockets like the G.
L is as fast and rolls better than the J due to hydraulic ailerons and carries 10x 5" rockets

Debatable point: J appears to maneuver a hairs breadth better than the L due to a lighter weight.

The J is also a better climber then the other two.

The L is a great dive bomber it can also hold its own in a dogfight but takes some time to get to know the L

The G is a fun plane as long as you dont want to BnZ with it. the G is a turn fighter and is a lot of fun due to the nose mounted guns its easy to land your shots where it counts

Based on what I've read here so far, the J is what I'll be dying in for the next while  :lol
Thanx guys, in my un-skilled noobness, I couldn't tell the difference between the three in testing them out offline and in the TA.   :) :aok

It takes no more to fly the L than it does the J or the G.  In fact, the L is the easiest of the lot to fly.

I think the G and J/L will average about the same number of pw, depending on how you fly it, but that's from my limited experience in the G.  Perhaps you just go lucky.  I'm not sure about your gun question.

Not a typo and no difference in ballistics.
