not sure about the range... but they have 1:30 of fuel.

is that 1 min 30 sec?   with out replaying silent hunter 3 here i think they have a 3 min time limit that would probly put them closer to a 4K max limit.

in the SH3 game i had to get inside of 2K for a really good shot with a torp.

im thinking torps ran at around 30knot but they seem really slow in this game.

i think (i could be wrong) that torpedos used in Uboats are different from the airdrop ones. also remember we aint dropping German torpedos, we are dropping American or Japanese torpedo's.

Last I heard the Ki-67 and B5N2 are still dropping German torps and not the good Japanese ones.

US NAVY MK13 Air dropped torpedo

Early design required the low speed low altitude drop and ran up to a max speed of 33 - 34 knots (subject to who you quote) with a maximum range of 6300 yards.

Later generations of the MK13 were designed to be high speed high altitude dropped  up to 2400 feet and up to 410 mph

In it's final incarnation the MK 13 weighed in at 2200 lbs +- and had a HE warhead of 600 pounds of Torpex.

"It would be nice to have the "later" production MK13, then you wouldn't need to be low and slow."

The Mod 3 Improved have a heavier explosive charge and had modifications done to permit a 300 knot launching speed. The Mod 3 Strong was further modified to allow a 350 knot launching speed with the Mod 4 being the same, save for a heavier explosive charge.

I am searching for my manuals on German torpedo's, but the air dropped had a model designation of FB5 Torpedo, if my memory serves.

Okay, didn't look far enough into the file cabinet...

The F5B was in service from 1941 till the end of the war with various modifications. It used a wooden K3 tail to help stabilise it in flight and broke off upon impact wit the water, later in 1944 it was replaced with the L2 which was similar, but had ailerons operated via a heavy gyro. With the introductionof th eL2 tail, this permitted increased dropping speeds and heights, maximum of which achieved was 183 knots at 390 feet.

Variations in weights are directly related to warhead and modifications during production.

The Italian Torpedo's were in use prior to fielding and during the use of this torpedo.

anyone else test this out with a PT boat?

PT boat runs at 35 mph,  the american torp runs at 39 mph

i got my PT up to speed and dropped all 4 torps and then made a hard left U turn all the way around and went after them and i passed them all within 2 min.

unless the PT speed is in knots and not MPH

somethings fishy with the speed here
