Messing with kids on the Intardnet.

So my wife is searching for Easter coloring pages and finds a picture of our second daughter hunting Easter eggs on the third Google search page.  Naturally she checks it out and finds out that a community is promoting an upcoming hunt and hot-linked Brigitta’s picture:

We don’t have a problem with this. 

Then I search through our website stats page to see where our hits are coming from and find a really weird one.  Some hits are coming from a page about a set of quintuplets.  The last picture on the page is Brigitta as a baby, but named Kayla: 

I’m trying to figure out how someone could make such a mistake.  Then I browsed through the site and realized that some 14 year old girl has fabricated a cool house, family and life through her website.  The URL’s of all the pictures are coming from all over the net.  She’s made it all up.  So, naturally I need to swap out the picture of Brigitta as a baby with a new one.

If she is hotlinking the picture directly from storage, you should take some gay porn and upload it with the same filename and then wait for the shock the next time she checks her page  :rofl

Someone was hotlinking a graphic from my site into their forum signature, and it was having a big effect on my bandwidth because the person was:

A. A very prolific poster
and
B. It was a very popular forum

So I replaced the image with goatse.  Problem solved.  The bandwidth stayed up for a day or so, then suddenly and dramatically dropped.  The panic on that other forum was...  epic.

My goodness, what an odd thing for that little girl to do with her website. If she's that creative, seems like she could put it to better use.

It was funny until a few minutes ago I remembered that story of the young girl killing herself because another group of adults were making fun of her online. Just remember guys. She's 14.

Oh, get real, and get a sense of perspective.  If you can't differentiate this from the horribly abusive campaign of shame those others ran on that other teenager, then you're in need of serious help.

Cool my jets?  I'll do one better, I'll make a stand.  People doing what you did are tearing this country down.  The constant patter of "oh no, the fact that X is interesting or amusing means that it might offend/hurt someone somewhere!" is ripping apart the spirit of our nation, a nation built on people doing interesting and funny things without being crippled into absolute inaction at the thought that some other delicate little flower might be bruised.
