I have the option to add an ignore feature to the board, but am still not sure if it is worth it.  On one hand, it was used in sigs to taunt others before, on the other hand it does provide a decent admin tool.

Still weighing the pros and cons.

I never saw the logic of an ignore list. You want to ignore someone, don't read their posts.

Skuzzy uses the tool. :D

Trust me, none of the ones named on an ignore list in a signature was in any way affected by being on such a list.  I tried my damndest to get on one but I guess my posts are far too enlightening and humble.

Some of us have no interest in taunting anyone we just dont want to be followed around by one liner spammers. Its far easier just to put someone on ignore and leaving this forum without the feature will make it worse.

Over at AGW the entire community had MG on ignore (as you can imagine), and they discussed this fact in threads constantly..then, whenever he'd start a thread, he'd get 500 anti MG posts by the very people who professed to have him on ignore, usually starting with "I ordinarily have MG on ignore, but took him off long enough to read this thread..."

It seems easy enough to just ignore someone you find boring, or stupid, or uninformed without making a big production out of it.

There is no production. Thats my point. You might tell someone once you are ignoring them but thats the end of it.

I dont know what AGW is but it sounds like they have more adolescents in it even then AH. And this place is starting to reek with one line spammers and fools who follow other posters around with their insults and moronic comments. A lot of players dont even use the boards. Yes I know cause they have told me.

It must be aggravating for anyone trying to moderate these threads too. Frankly I dont envy Skuzzy and the job he has to do. I have a policy that once a thread starts to heat up then <boom> Im out of it. But it would be easier if you could just put some people on ignore. The list is actually fairly small. One guy I never once heard him say anything positive about anything or anybody. Its easier just to put someone like that on ignore rather then have to put up with his misery.

If you have someone on ignore, and they know it, does that not leave you open to a personal attack that you can't defend against? I mean, if you don't/can't see their posts', how would you know to combat it?

That's kind of the point.  Those personal attacks and their responses do nothing useful.  They take away from the real discussion.  The trolls will toss those personal attacks in there just to get a response.  Ignoring them works pretty well.  You don't see the insults or attacks, and have no incentive to respond to them which has the effect only of making the troll feel good and getting the discussion further off topic.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Every person has a built in ignore list.  Simply chose not to read or respond to things.

Like this, I could have ignored it, but chose to respond in hopes of shedding some light on the option.

I liked my ignore list.  I did put my list in my sig.  But I didn't really consider that taunting.  If it was, it was a very mild form of it.  And on occasion, someone from my ignore list would even post in a thread I created.  I didn't look at what they posted, as I'm sure it wasn't something real pleasant.

/. Ignore Everyone (except Nilsen) while I’m on my period.  (I just can’t handle what others might say, but can’t keep myself from looking.)
