Osti Gunners Improving?
« on: March 15, 2008, 03:07:32 PM »
I'm wondering if it's just me, or are some of the people upping Ostwinds getting a lot better with their aim?

Seems to me, if I saw a flak on the ground a year or so back, I didn't feel all that threatened. I felt like I could pretty much fly around at leisure over the flak so long as I kept my distance and didn't dive straight at it. Sure, every now and then someone would get lucky and I'd get hit, but most of the time I didn't worry.

Now, it seems more and more often, I'll be circling above an Ostwind just far enough out so I can see its icon and thinking there's not much to worry about as far away as I am. All of the sudden, BOOM! I've been shot down. Seems to be happening time and time again.

Anybody else think a lot of those gunners have gotten better over time? As for me, it's still all I can do to hit a plane with an Ostwind.

Current tour Ostwind overall K/D 1.607
One year ago: overall K/D 1.599

Doesn't seem like much changed at first glance. I guess you are currently just unlucky enough to run into the wrong players ;)

Yeah, but you've always been a good shot, Lusche.

But you could be right. I might of somehow changed the way I play the game over time so that I end up facing the better shots.

This is not my K/D in Ostwind. It's all Ostwind MA kills/deaths.

If you even have the misfortune to fly within 2k of Zazen when he's in an ostwind you will know about it.
I can't hit crap with them if it's not on the ground

I've shot planes down at 2.5K with the Osti in the past.    Theres some days where I can't the inside of the barn while being in it and days where I very rarely miss.

I had 262 kills in the Ostie last tour.  I aim to break 300 this tour (I hope).  Anyway, I think with practice anyone can regularly get kills anywhere inside of 1.5k.  Outside of that, you can hit targets further out, but the dispersion effect of the 37mm gun at that range ruins whatever accuracy you may have.  You can get pretty lucky, I have done it several times outside of 2.5k.  Anyway to answer your question: I guess I have improved over the last 8 tours.  I am sure several others have as well.  My .02.

I can't gun for crap in an osti, period. That is why you never find me in one.

I've gotten to be occasionally dangerous in one.

It is simple. 1. Read Zazen's Osti method. 2. Don't be shy about pumping out alot of rounds. 3. For high deflection shots, don't bother with the gunsight, adjust your forward hat switch view to raise the head all the way up. You'll have the field of vision to actually see the target AND pull enough lead, using osti barrel, screen center, and tracers for reference points. For these crossers, a "swing through" lead method like you'd use on crossing birds with a shotgun seems to work for me alot.4. Read Zazen's Osti method.

I enjoy using the osti & consider myself quite able in one, Was accused of cheating a couple of days ago by a high ranking player after I shot him down 3 times in a row from about 2-3k out. It is just practice in most cases I can not even see where the plane is I am shooting at because I know that I have to lead them by quite a bit to hit them. Practice Practice Practice that's it.
