TrackIR and head position keeps defaulting??
« on: March 17, 2008, 10:50:28 PM »
:( HI all, new here - I have just purchased TrackIR and no problems at all setting it up. However, can anyone answer this - normally i zoom in a little in the cockpit and save my head position using the F10 button. When i use the TrackIR though, it sets my head position back to the default one!!!

Is there any solution to this?

Many thanks guys

Track IR is seperate from youre head positions in the game with youre track IR on as you lean forward it will zoom in and as you lean back it pulls back to the default position . check the Z axis on youre track in the setup,I can set mine to zoom in as far as i like, or as little. saveing any position with the F10 wont do you any good the Track IR works with 6 axis in 3deminsions, on the clipboard in the game clik "options" then clik preferences then "view options" make sure the box is checked that says "TRACKIR object relative move"
this may not help but good luck with it :aok

Better do not.
Object relative move gives you unnatural results. When enabled and looking back, your viewpoint moves to left when leaning to the right, it's like being mirrored.

If you want to set any viewpoint as standard during flight, just move to that point and hit the TIR recenter button. For example I always crouch a little bit forward and recenter. That gives me two advantages: My viewpoint is as high as possible during normal flight and when I turn head to look back, I immediately have a bigger distance to the headrest, thus greater field of view. When I'm about to shoot, I just lean forward/down a bit again.

The reason i suggested the TRACK relative move box lusche is because mine goes nuts if its not checked ,but when i checked it everything smoothed out. i was able to invert the axis so as i look left it looks left now, it used to be mirrored like you say. However mine is a custom built TrackIR so the setup may be different.

Then it is no TrackIr at all. You should include that information when giving advice onTrackIr software setups.

If you move your head straight back about 6 inches or so (keeping it centered and looking straight ahead) and then hit the center key for TrackIr (Mine is F12..but I don't remember if thats the default key) it will center it up but do it in a way that your head position is more forward.

It takes a little bit of experimentation to get the position exactly the way you like it, but once you get the hang of it you can pretty quickly reset it for whatever aircraft you are in.

Sounds like F10 is the default to reset your head view for trackIR. So when you press F10 to zoom in AH2 its also reseting your view. I just got track Ir about 3 weeks ago and had this problem myself.

When you edit your profiles guys, there is a tab there for hotkeys - pause, precision and center I think (at work, so cant check). Make sure you have keys sorted for these, if you get too much body english, its quick and easy to recenter yourself. TrackIr (imo) is fantastic, and I wouldn't play without it now. Occassionally mine will freak out (which is normally when the sun comes up) and the IR goes haywire.

Hope this helps,

Vonduck,

You need to map a key for zoom on your joystick, and zoom in and out also.  That way you get in the plane, zoom to the desired level for shooting, and then unclick zoom.  works like a charm. With TRACKIR you will not be able to "save" zoomed in AH views.

Once you get your TrackIr sorted out, you can remap your hat switch on the joystick to handle your elevator and aileron trim.

Set up another button to toggle auto trim on and off and it makes it easier to trim out of a high speed dive when the controls stiffen up.

You just hit the auto trim button (to toggle it off), use the hat switch to input trim and then hit the auto trim button (to toggle it back on, which centers the trim tabs) and then repeat as necessary.

This works great on Bf 109-K4's to get out of "lawn dart" mode.

Good luck
