Error message - DSOUND.dll
« on: March 19, 2008, 10:24:57 AM »
Hello there,

I recently had a "driver fallout" where installing a new set of drivers for a wireless adapter really messed up my system. It was so bad that my friend who has been working around computers for the better part of 30 years had to randomly start removing things before he found the issue. It appeared that either Apache or ActiveSky (Add-on for FS2004) was attempting to run a file that caused a malfunction in the startup generating a reboot.

Either way, this is not why I'm here today. After I finally got my computer back and started working on it I noticed that almost any gaming application I attempted to run would crash with an error regarding a .dll. Its the same with AH, when I attempt to launch AH it returns an error message:

aceshigh.exe - Ordinal Not Found

The Ordinal 12 could not be located in the dynamic link library DSOUND.dll.

The link below accesses my dxdiag, because I'm certain something I am unaware of is messed up, and I simply can't find it.

The DirectX registry is hosed up in the Sound/Music section.  Quite frankly, you are looking at a re-installation of the operating system.  I am not saying it cannot be fixed.  You can always try a repair installation of the operating system.  Then you only have to re-install all your applications and do all the MS updates.

Thanks for the notice Skuzzy. Its what I was thinking, and my friend as well. When I got it back he mentioned that I would have to re-install all my drivers. But after re-installing them my issues were not resolved. So he did mention perhaps the only other option would be to reformat after securing the files which I need to save.

Thanks for taking a look into it. :aok
